The hard steel of the Ulfberht grew heavy in Ledger's palm as he stared into the green eyes of the Enchantress. Deep and filled with rich magic, they had enticed him, lured him in with the promise of peace. And she betrayed him.
His breath harsh and labored, he could feel the warm blood seeping from his wounds and soaking his tunic. His strength was wanting. He had defeated countless demons in his time, many hiding behind a beautiful mask. But this was the most difficult enemy he had ever faced and Ledger could not last.
His dragon lay on the ground at the feet of the Enchantress, his fire nearly extinguished. The Ulfberht was broken and chipped. But his resolve was still strong.
She could not win. He could not let her win.
Ledger grasped his sword tightly one last time and took one last breath to steady himself before he charged into the inferno.
