Scarlett POV:
An arraignment of music played, but none set to our taste. It stinks that the school forced our arrival hours before the ceremony begins. We sit as the isles fill with friends and family. Supposedly this is one of the greatest accomplishments a teen can achieve, but I, we, don't see it like that. High school graduation was just the last step in our plan before we revolutionize. I've come to notice as this day, graduation, came closer and closer our personalities started to tweak in the direction we wanted. Like even right now, for instance, I ignored the name tag in the pull out chair which was not my own and sat next to my best friend Olivia. Our other best friend, Jade, had to go off and sit on the elaborate stage as salutatorian, or basically the runner up to valedictorian. The whole time Olivia, or Olly as we like to call her, and I would text Jade making fun of her. It's all in good humor of course; that's what best friends do.
"So what's the plan Jan?" Olly asks me bubbly.
"Well when they say your name you walk across the stage and take your diploma," I say slowly and sarcastically.
"Bitch you know what I'm talking about," she rolls her eyes at me. She's come to know my sarcastic side from way before we started dreaming about the future. It's the rest of the world that doesn't see this side of me.
"Well I think we should get all our parents in one place to tell them. Way more efficient," I say answering her question. Our parents would be completely blindsided about how we would be spending our summer. "So right after the ceremony get them all together spring it on them and run," I further explain. "Are you packed already?" I ask.
"I've been packed for the past three months girl," She chuckles.
"Well that would explain your recent wardrobe choices," I joke giving her an up down even though we were in matching caps and gowns.
"Please, it's better than what you wear," she says and we both know it's true.
"Touché."
Finally we were directed out of the auditorium as the ceremonies were to begin promptly. It's in this time that I inform my fellow classmate, whose seat I have been sitting in, that I had no intention to move. He nodded in compliance. Knowing the weird boy he was probably just really excited about the fact I, a female, approached him with a conversation. I turned quickly on my toes and went back to my group. Jade was able to stand with us as we waited for the signal to line up. With her was her boyfriend Parker Evans, also known as the valedictorian. He was about three inches taller than Jade, who was short with a five foot three inch stature. He had sandy blonde hair with bright blue eyes with a very 'boy next door' aura about him. For the two years I've known him I haven't seen him get jealous, show one single sign of possession, or ask if any of our girl trio were on their period. On paper they seem perfect; the polite, well respected scholar girl dating the most mature, emotionally and intellectually, male. But Jade isn't on paper. She's a complex, combination of microorganisms who since a young age has been trying to compete with her oh so perfect mother for a similar stature in the world. And frankly I think she's over it. She's come to embrace her nick name of Jade which in my opinion sounds way cooler than Jaden, but I did come up with it so I may be a tad bias. Her mother's comments have also seemed to effect her less and less. She has somewhat grown a little bit thicker backbone, although I encourage her to continue this path. With these slight changes in her personality comes cracks in her relationship with Parker. Which hurts us all in a way. Olly and I weren't too involved with the guys in our school. By that I mean we haven't ever had an official boyfriend. This relationship was like our own in a way, as creepy as that sounds. Not that we could necessarily help it. Jade, Olly, and I have been best friends all of high school; just us three. When Parker entered the picture of course he befriended us all and we had plenty of 'aww' moments that Jade would tell us about after the fact. The saddest thing about this crumbling relationship is that I don't think Parker necessarily notices Jade's new come apprehensions.
