You briskly walked through the hallway of Goldman University. You were about to be late for your next class; which was also your favorite one. Slung over your right shoulder, you struggle to not to drop your heavy bag. It's filled with expensive textbooks, pens, and notebooks. As you look down at your bag quickly to see if anything's fallen out; your phone's screen glows. You reach into the bag and take out your phone, glancing at the screen after swerving out of the way of some rich frat boys.

The text is from your best friend; Jae. You two have known each other forever. You guys basically lived together all throughout Highschool because you two spent the night over one another's every other day. You were the first person she came out to as bisexual; and you accepted her immediately and protected her whenever someone had some smart shit to say about it.

You always had an attitude when someone came poking their nose into your business. Your favorite phrase was "Nun Ya" and constantly rolled your eyes. You had also gone through a phase in your life where you tried to hide your personality; so people wouldn't label you as the ignorant, angry, always-got-an-attitude Black girl. But a few years back, you thought 'fuck it' and started acting the way you wanted to whether or not someone liked it.

You scowl at the thought of you acting brand new. Your phone screen glows again. This time you actually stop and read it.

Jae 😘😍👯: Meet at Calvin's? He has a party tonight at his parent's
Jae 😘😍👯: Oh wait u in class. See u later boo.

You turn off your phone just as you approach your classroom. You walk down the aisle and take a seat in the middle. You then swing the arm rest/desk and set your Mac on it. Your professor walks in the door right before class starts.

You sit in your small car that smells like cigarette smoke. Looking up at the large house sitting in the center of this middle class neighborhood. From what you've seen, there are mostly older white people living in here. So, they'll complain about the noise.

You get out the car and feel the warm sun kiss your bare legs. You are wearing a simple T-shirt that flatters your dark skin and textured hair tucked into plain jean shorts. You were casual like that. You follow the thin stream of people walking up to the house and going in.

When you go in, the smell of weed, alcohol, and body odor slaps you in the face. You feel a wave of nausea hit you and you lean against the small hallway. There are dark colored stairs at the end of the hall; and before the stairs there are two other rooms on each side of the hall. Kids are sitting on the stairs, drinking, laughing, kissing, or bopping their heads to the beat of the song. The music's coming from the room on the left.

You stand their awkwardly for a while because you don't feel a sense of purpose. You force your legs to move into the room with the music so you'll get out of the way of people just coming in.

The music was coming from the living room. People are grinding on each other and having a good time. It was already dark and someone strung up Christmas lights around the room.

You smile and try not to look like you don't know what the hell you're doing and go to the drinks table. They have capri-suns, bottles of hard liquor, and a big bowl of punch; probably spiked. You grab a capri-sun so you don't get a hangover tomorrow. You have some assignments to work on.

"Y/n!!!!!!!" You hear a shrill voice say from behind you. You raise your top lip slightly; not enough for anyone else to notice though. You act like you don't hear them and move your body to the beat and away from the voice. You do this until you believe you are a decent distance away.

You can feel your muscles relax when you see Jae coming. She's dressed in a simple black outfit. Black Tee with black joggers and black air-forces.

"Hey!" You say, smiling widely.

"Hey." Her eyes move down to your legs quickly and back up to your face. "I just got here. I miss anything?"

"No. So far it's been pretty basic." You successfully put the straw in the capri-sun on the first try. You scan the crowd. So far you see Calvin getting twerked on by Allivia. Carly, Janice, Russell, Mike, Tayvon, Karmani, and a bunch of other familiar faces. You wondered how many frat boys were getting girls pregnant this very moment and how many boys were cumming in their pants.

You and Jae stood next to each other in silence. It wasn't awkward silence, because you both were busy observing people. Jae always had warmth emitting off of her body, and you could feel it with how close she was standing to you.

"So what you want to do?" Jae asked in a low voice.

"I just want to dance and have a good time. Maybe I'll have a drink." You tilt your head to the side and slide your eyes over to her. "What?" You ask Jae because she is giving you the 'bitch please' look.

"Y/N you never drink, girl." She chuckles. "Remember?"

"Whatever. I'm doing things differently tonight." You say and walk over to the drink table. You pour some Ciroc in a cup and look back at Jae. She has a small smile on her face, daring you to actually drink it.

You bring the cup to your lips. The drink smells fruity, with a little bit of burning. You down the whole shot. It burns as it goes down and you struggle to not spit it out like cough medicine. You wipe tears from your eyes and sniff.

"See? I told you I could do it."
