chapter 1: Grade 5

I was so nervous. It was my first day in my new school as a fifth grader. Questions kept forming in my mind. How should I act? How should I speak? Will they like me?

When the school bus stopped in front my house, I went back in to drag mom out to check if that was the bus that was gonna fetch me. Mom nodded, so I went inside, took the nearest empty seat I could find, and stayed quiet for the whole trip.

When I got to school, I was almost late, and since I was advised by the school to use a trolley bag, I had to go up the ramps. I asked the guard where the grade 5 classrooms were, and she said it was at the 3rd floor. When I got to the 3rd floor, most of the classes were already starting. I asked one of the ladies --probably a teacher, judging by her uniform-- if I could go inside.

 "Are you in 5-MK?"

I glanced at my bag tag, 5-MA... nope, not MK  "no".

"What's your section, then?"

"uh... 5-MA."

"Oh, okay. Your classroom is the one at the other end of the corridor."

"thanks"

I stopped at the door of the classroom. "Good morning. Are you a new student?"  I nodded.

"Okay. Take the empty seat here at the front. Go on. We were just about to begin our morning prayers."

After morning prayers, we started the introduction of new students. I didn't know how to speak in front of 45 people. The most I ever had in a class was 13. Are the students private all-girl schools this many, or is CA just small?

When my turn came up at the introduction, I was so nervous that my voice could hardly be heard.

"Good morning. My name is Kate Villa. I used to study in Cornerstone Academy not too far from here... I moved because I didn't like the bullies in that school and also because my friend died because of cancer last year and I don't want to stay there because it reminds me of sad memories about him".

"Really? Do you mind telling me what type of cancer it was?"

I felt hot tears burn my face "I don't remember. But he had been my friend since second grade".

I felt totally humiliated

During recess, I ate as quickly as I could and went back up the classroom, and did the same with lunch. By the end of the day, I became frustrated with myself. I had not been able to make any friends or talk in class.

The same routine went on until Thursday of the second week of school.

On the way home, my bus mates tried to converse with me. I did my best to be polite and answered them thoughtfully until one of my bus mates, whose name I recalled to be Pia and was in the 7th grade, started talking about an anime called Kaichou Wa Maid Sama. I couldn't  contain myself anymore by then, so I started talking to her about it and since that was the only topic I could relate with her to, I talked about it for days until she became annoyed with me.

"Kate, would you please stop it?"

" Okay... Let's talk about something else then."

"Ugh.. you are so annoying! I should call you annoying orange."

I didn't know who annoying orange was at that time, so I just agreed cheerily and stuck to that nickname for quite a while.

During my first year at school, I didn't make friends from my batch--besides two of the most quiet people in the batch who I became friends with because they started eating lunch with me during second quarter for who knows why-- but I made a lot from the higher batches; The sixth graders I befriended were Viviane, Faith, Kris, Bianca, and Jamie while the seventh graders were Ysabel, Mitch, Claude, Dianne, Rain, Paula, and Dane who I usually stalked just for the fun of it.

Aelia's Note:

okay so, this is the first story I've posted in wattpad and realized it totally sucked so I'm not gonna continue it unless at least one person comments that he/she wants me to continue it.

but instead, I'm gonna work on a different one but with the same title. (february 17, 2014)
