teenage struggles

Harry didn't remember much of the Great Feast. All he knew was that he missed Dumbledore's speeches and that the new headmistress didn't impress him much. She was younger than most teachers, about thirty years old, and the main part of her speech was to "heal wounds and create stronger bonds". Apparently there would be an extra teacher this year, only for the well being of students. Harry realized that this would be called a psychiatrist among muggles, but wizards didn't have a word for it yet, so he's just "Mind-Healer".

A new teacher for the Defense Against the Dark Arts hadn't been hard to find this year. Harry remembered that the woman being introduced was one of his guards the night he was being transferred to Grimmauld Place after Dudley had been attacked by the dementors.

Before the feast had really ended, he, Ron and Hermione said goodbye to the others and made their way up to the Gryffindor Tower. They hadn't reached the marble staircase before Ginny had fought up with them.

"Harry, wait for me!" She grabbed his hand and held it strongly. It felt odd for some reason, and Harry didn't like the feeling of her being with him, Ron and Hermione. He wanted to spend time with his best friends, and only them. He knew Ginny would lure him away after a while to snuggle up in some bed, to later talk his ear off about Quidditch teams she wanted to join. He had heard at least a thousand times how bad the Cuddley Cannons were, and someone had to be as stupid as Ron to play for them.

In the common room 15 minutes later (and after the Fat Lady had cried and cried before she let them in with the new password "winners") they all sat down in their favorite chairs right in front of the fire. Ginny didn't choose her own seat, but sat down in Harry's lap without asking. Harry looked over at Hermione and Ron. At least they weren't inseparable and you could carry a normal conversation with the both of them without being annoyed that their faces were only an inch away from each other.

Halfway through this thought he realized that this was not entirely true. Ron and Hermione had tried to hide their love in front of Harry out of respect he supposed. Maybe they would be more obvious now when he had to be around them all day long.

Harry was tired and annoyed with Ginny. She didn't mean any harm but it had become too much for him. He needed his own space sometimes. He told the others he was going to bed and left abruptly. He didn't look back to see if Ginny was mad.

Well tucked in in his bed he fell asleep quickly. Ron and the other boys sharing the dormitory didn't come up until long after he had fallen asleep.

The morning after he got up early to wander the castle. It was all so familiar but also so very different. When the rest of the castle had awoken he walked to the Great Hall to get his schedule and eat some breakfast.

With breakfast over, Harry, Ron and Hermione followed the moving crowd out of the Great Hall. Slightly annoyed he noticed that Ron and Hermione's new found love wouldn't be go unnoticeable. He separated himself from them by falling behind three tall Ravenclaws, slowly walking from laughing too hard at a Death Eater joke.

The Death Eaters had become some sort of standing joke among the survivors, making fun of them for leaving and losing bad at the end of the war. Harry always thought of it like France in the Second World War, waving the white flag so quickly, but knew that no one else would understand that reference.

Hermione would though. But Harry hadn't spoken to his best friend for a very long time. It seemed like he was getting further and further away from his two, now dating best friends.
Dragging him out of his daydreaming, Ginny came out of nowhere taking his hand. Ginny. Yesterday seemed to not have upset her at all.

Harry didn't have the slightest idea about what had happened between the two. He had been so madly in love with her before, but after the tragedies with her family and Harry's personal issues had taken them apart. Sadly, Harry had to admit, he wasn't sad. He just figured it was the right decision to break up with her, they had simply grown apart.

The only problem was that he still hadn't broken up with her. Harry was afraid of what was going to happen between him and the Weasley family, and most importantly; Ron. He had warned Harry that if he broke his little sisters heart, he would have to break him down too.

Never the less, it had to be done, and Harry had spent the last two weeks planning his break up. He had come up with nothing, but instead got distracted by his broom polishing kit, so the only good thing that would come out of this break up was a shiny broom.

"Hey Ginny, can I talk to you for a sec?" Harry said, trying hard to sound casual.

"What? Oh, can't we do that after first period? I'm going to be late for Herbology." Ginny said, gave him a quick kiss on the cheek and hurried after Luna, who was already halfway out the door, only she was blocking the rest of the students by being distracted of a fluffy thing on the ground.

Harry, thinking it's probably just a piece of wool from her neon pink woolen hat, smiled and started to make his way up to Defense Against the Dark Arts.
