The Song in My Heart

"Someday, you'll find someone who is the song in your heart and you are the song in their's, and you'll be in harmony.", my grandmother used to tell me. I never really believed her. I mean, how in the world could two people have the same exact song in their hearts? It didn't quite make sense and it wasn't very practical. Not to mention that even now, being a freshman in high school, I still haven't found the person who is supposed to magically harmonize with me. Well, that was before I met Natalie Howes. Natalie Howes. Even her name is beautiful. To me, Natalie is the song in my heart, it beats for her and only her. But this is unrequited, she doesn't even know I exist. Well, maybe she does, but if she did, she would know me as the loser. I never do anything right, never have, never will. I guess that's just life and I have to deal with it. Not to mention that every single guy in our school is more good looking than me. The most good looking guy in my class? Jax Harlison. He's 6 feet, 2 inches of pure narcissism yet every girl fantasizes about him. It doesn't make it any better that Natalie has her eye out for him.

At this point in my life I've done only one thing right, start learning how to play piano. This one talent is my only saving grace. The only bad thing about this is that Jax Harlison plays piano too, and he's damn good at it. Every since the beginning of the school year, he's been a bit of a bully to me. I don't even understand why. I mean, how am I any better than him? He's got the looks, the talent, and most importantly, he'll get Naomi too. Speaking of Naomi, she's the most beautiful girl I've ever met. Her blonde hair falls perfectly over her shoulders and along her back, her light blue eyes kill me inside when she even glances over at me, and when she plays violin, I can't breath. Oh yes, I forgot to mention. Naomi plays violin in the same music class as Jax and I. That's actually how I first met her. I remember the very first time she ever played violin in front of the class. Mr. Bardon, our music teacher, had asked each one of us to play a short piece of music from the instrument we knew the best. Naomi went up with her violin and started playing this slow, sweet lullaby-like piece. You could tell she was trying hard to make every stroke of her strings perfectly exact. That's when the song in my heart started playing, but it was only a whisper. As the weeks went on, I started falling for Naomi more and more.

Since we had music class almost everyday, I got to see her everyday. The only thing was that this was the only class we had together, so I had to make the most of it. Every once and awhile I'd stare across my seat to where Naomi was sitting, with the people who played stringed instruments. I had to sit next to Jax because he was the only other pianist in the class. What made things even worse is that sometimes Naomi would look in my direction. I would instantly perk up and smile until I realized she was looking at Jax. I would glance over and see Jax giving her a smirk or a wink back. She would giggle softly and focus back on her sheet of music or Mr. Bardon.

 Bardon
