"Mia? Mia, wake up." I slowly open my eyes. "R-Rinah." She puts her hand on my forearm. I try to sit up but I collapse back down. "Mia? Why didn't you tell mom or I that our step-dad abuses you when we aren't around?" I close my eyes again. "I-I didn't want you.....to worry about me." She puts her head on my chest. "None of this would have happened if you had just said something." I breath in deeply. "He threatened...to kill me if..... I said something." She starts crying and my dad walks in. No. Not my step-dad. My biological father. He sat down on the bed, but I keep my eyes closed. "Hey kitten." I try to keep a steady breathing rate. "H-Hey dad." He smooths my hair from my face. "It's okay now. He's gone away for a long time. A long, long time." I give a weak laugh. I turn my head to the side. "W-where's mom?" He sighs. "She's been put away too." I try to sit up but I give up. "Just lay still kitten. Go back to sleep if you have to." I nod once and fall back asleep.
