1. "Wait, so what's going on?"

It happened again. The nightmares. Last night was the most frustrating yet. I almost saw his face. Almost. These dreams are always the same. It's me and him always running away. From what? I'm not sure, but we're running. In these dreams, I feel this strong pull towards him.

"So, what do you think of this dress?"

I keep trying to figure out who he is, or at least figure out why I keep having these dreams.

"Ally? Hello? Earth to Allyson!"

"Wait, so what's going on?"

"I swear, ever since you came back from the hospital, you're more distracted than usual."

There's the thing. I don't remember going to the hospital. I don't remember why or how I ended up there. Everyone apparantely knows, though. They say I almost overdosed the night I got engaged. I don't recall taking the drug, or getting engaged for that matter. I remember waking up in my all too familiar room, but not remembering anything from that night, or the past year for that matter. When I woke up, Doctor Grey and my parents were there. They explained what happened, and that I was going to suffer some memory loss, the side effect to the drug, Static. But something didn't click...

"Allyson!"

"What?!"

I swear, Holly annoyed the crap out of me. We've been best friends for the longest time, though; and we were complete opposites. Holly Chase was beautiful, confident, and always in her own little world. She reached at 5' 9" with a thin frame, jet black hair that brushed her shoulders, and green eyes. Her wolf resembled her beauty. She's always been confident of herself and status. Her family is pretty well-off, too, what with her dad being Beta. And like I said, always in her own little world. She was an only child, with plenty of Rogue sevants.

"I've been asking you. What do you think of this dress?"

"I like that one."

"Come on, Al. You've been saying that for the past ten dresses."

"Well... They all look good on you, Holly!"

And they did. She had the height and beauty to pull off anything. Honestly, I really did like this sparkly silver dress on her. It made her look beautiful. I saw her twirl and look at me, and I smiled reassuringly.

"Holly, honest. That one looks best."

"I know, right?"

I rolled my eyes at her.

"So, now it's your turn to find the perfect dress. I mean, it is your engagement."

There's the other thing. Everyone says I am madly in love with Tyler Rage, the soon-to-be Alpha of the Full Silver Pack, also my father's sworn enemies. They keep telling me that we love each other; that he is my fiancé, my mate. They say we were secretly meeting for a year. As the relationship got more serious, I got depressed because I knew that we couldn't be together. As society puts it, we shared a Forbidden Love. That's why I almost overdosed.

You see, our first shift happens when we reach the age of sixteen. When we turn eighteen, that's when we are ready to find our mate, our other half, our true love. They say that the pull, the smell, the attraction towards our mate is strong. This attraction goes beyond the physical; it is an attraction of our souls and wolves calling for each other. Me being the daughter of the strongest Alpha of the Dark Moon Pack, finding my mate was a pretty big deal. But that's the thing. I don't remember ever meeting my so-called mate. Doctor Grey says it's because of my memory loss. I always dreamed that when I finally turned eighteen, I would finally find my mate, that everything would fall into perfect place and harmony. That he would complete me, like I would complete him, and make us stronger. But since I almost overdosed, you would think I'd remember my mate.

Tonight, at the engagement party, will be the first time I see Tyler since I woke up and left the hospital. I keep trying to convince myself that maybe after seeing him, all my memories and feelings and so-called love for him would be restored.

After a few hours of shopping and wandering, Holly and I found the perfect dress, and finally left home to change and get ready.

Later that night, I see myself in the mirror, and I don't recognize the beautiful, confident girl staring back at me. I automatically envy her. I notice how her dress hugs her body all in the right places. The midnight color dress is making her tanned skin glow, and her hazel eyes with a touch of make-up sparkle. She notices how her chocolate brown hair naturally bounces to her waist, and how the scattered freckles across her face makes her beautiful, too.

"You ready, Allyson?" I hear my mother ask as she opens my door.

"Yes, mother."

"You look beautiful, dear."

"Thank you, mother."

My mother and I link arms, and make our way to the main floor. Here is where the party is being held, and all the important wolves of both packs are gathered. This is the first time both packs come together in harmony, in celebration. Once my mother opens the door to the room, it hit me. That smell, that pull. It wasn't a natural smell, but it called me, nonetheless. This smell felt almost like a drug. Something I needed, not something I naturally wanted.

That's when I saw him. I couldn't deny his looks. He stood out. I could see why every girl in the city desired him, why they all envied my engagement. I could see how that boyish look, and that neatly combed blonde hair, and strong build of his attracted every she-wolf of every pack. I could see it, but I didn't feel it. To say the least, I was disappointed when he looked at me with those blue eyes of his and smiled.

I was disappointed to see that it was Tyler Rage, my mate.
