Warming Up to Things

I ran down the stairs of my apartment building. I made my friend wait long enough by accident. 'Way to let Starlee know you're here, Cody!" I grumbled to myself.

I finally reached the bottom of the staircase, seeing Starlee standing there, back faced towards me as she was talking to the manager at the desk and a suitcase in hand. "Thank-you for your help," she bowed for some reason. I guessed silently that it's what her people do.

"Hey Starlee!" I greeted, waving my hand to her. "It's so exciting to see you!"

Starlee turned around. Her hair got in her face as she did, and she moved it away with her index finger. "Cody Jones," she greeted with a smile. "It's about time you showed up!"

I knew that she was joking, so I gave a small chuckle. "Yeah, heh! Sorry about that," I rub my hand against the back of my neck. "I was getting the place ready for you then me and Serling had a little thing come up soon after."

"Ah... I see. That's alright, Jones," she walked over to me, bringing her luggage with her. "So... This is your place? It's pretty awesome!"

"Yup! Come on! I'll show you where you'll be staying!" I motioned my hand and ran to the elevator. Starlee ran after me. I looked at her luggage that seemed heavy. "Here, let me take that for you."

Starlee smiled. "Why thank-you, Jones!" and handed me the suitcase.

The elevator beeped and the intercom said "Level 30," in its regular annoying female voice. The doors opened and me and Starlee went to my dorm. Opening the door, I could tell she was impressed by how it looked.

"Welcome Home, Starlee!" I exclaimed excitedly. Starlee was surprised. Her smile was from one ear to the other! She did a little clap then started to run around the apartment, examining every part of it.

"Wow! It's so big! A lot bigger than on screen! I-Is that a high-tech realistic video game!?" She exclaimed.

"Yes it is!" I answered. "Would you like to play it?"

She nodded. "But first, I heard-" Oh. My gosh!" She ran to the window. "O' Neil Tech!? It's so big!"

I walk up to her. "I'm glad you like it, Starlee! Because that's where you'll be working!"

Starlee turns around with a surprised look on her face. "Wait, you mean I w-work.. There!? The most famous place in the entire galaxy!?"Her look turns into a huge grin. I nod. "Oh, my..!" She stumbles a bit. "I'm, huuuh!" Starlee lost her balance. I caught her before she hit the ground.

"Starlee!"
