There are only a couple of things in this life that bring you complete happiness and mine just happened to be in the shape of a box full of chocolate macadamia cookies. The latest find of gold in the dumpster behind Mini Dollar Mart.

My diving career began my junior year of college, being broke, hungry and on the verge of being homeless makes you get creative. And that is exactly what I did. Now two years later I was scavenging for anything food being the top of the list, closely followed by anything I could sell for money.

I did a final sweep of the dumpster before hopping out and heading home. If it wasn't for the cookies today would have been a complete bust. The Mini Mart was usually my last resort, since the owners were so cheap and never threw anything away. Yet today I was heading home with a case of cookies I hadn't seen since my childhood. I pedaled home on my poor excuse of a bike, happy that I would at least have something to eat for lunch until pay day came around in a few days.

The sound of a bullhorn blowing next to your ear should be enough to wake a normal person up, unfortunately I'm not a normal person and I overslept. Again.

"Shoot! I'm late! I am soo dead! OH my God!" My boss hated me and was currently looking for any excuse to fire me, going so far as to use my college degree to deem me unqualified to bag groceries. Apparently that was a thing.

"Do you want a ride? You can make it in less than ten minutes if I drive." I turned to find my best friend and sometimes roommate Amy sipping a cup of coffee and twirling her car keys with her free hand.

"Yes please! I'll grab my bag can you make me a cup please?" I yelled as I entered my room and jumped into my shoes. I could not be late. Again.

" Thanks for the ride Ames!." I hollered as I ran out of the car and pulled out a box of cookies to munch on. I was so caught up in my food that I missed the giant recall sign in the front of the box, and the newspaper headlines screaming from their stands.
