This is one of the most important pieces of information/background to read before you read the chapters. Again, at any point you can look back for reference.
These rules were set forth by Valor upon the creation of the Vampyre race to ensure prosperity and order, even in times of great distress.
1. A Vampyre can survive on a diet of synthetic blood and regular food or just on another Vampyre's blood.
2. If a Vampyre is feeding from another Vampyre, they must be from the same class.
*There is only one exception to this: The Aran can feed on whomever he would like if they are deemed worthy by Valor and bear a mark of his honor.
*This mark is two small crescent moons facing towards each other with a small crown in the middle of them. The mark is found on inside of the right wrist.
*Only certain females bear this mark and they have the most pure blood, these females are also extremely rare. They are referred to as Niya.
3. If you are mated, you are forbidden from feeding from a Vampyre that is not your mate.
*The only exception is the Aran and his Niya.
*If this law is broken, it is punishable by death. The Aran decides how the offender dies.
4. The protectors may feed on synthetic blood while in battle or if they choose not to take a mate and instead pledge their eternal life to the service of the Aran.
5. When a female Vampyre is with child she must only feed on synthetic blood.
*This rule was put into place because pregnant females need to consume twice their blood volume in order to support a growing baby and herself.
6. A Niya is only to be fed on by the Aran or those he deems worthy of her.
*In the entire history of Voightire only once has an Aran allowed another to drink from his Niya.
*This was in the last battle of The Great War. The Aran's son was dying and he allowed him to take from the same vein in order to save his life. If the Aran hadn't let him, the line would have passed over to his sister's son but instead the line stayed with the Kual line.
7. When the Aran becomes mated, he may choose whether or not to give up his Niya.
*If he chooses to give her up she enters into the service of Valor or is gifted to one of his lords.
*If he chooses not to give her up, she becomes a royal asset. She is placed at the same level of importance as the Arin.
*She is afforded the same luxuries and becomes the Aran's mistress.
*There are also two Niya's who became an Arin. This is not the case for most of the Niya's.
