Chapter 11- staying another night

The doctors had told you that it would be best for Simon to stay for one more night just so they could be confident that he was okay. You decided to stay with him and the boys had gone back to the house. It was awfully quiet in the ward as families came in and left again. Some left drying tears from their cheeks and some left smiling with joy as they pushed their loved ones away in a wheelchair. You examined everyone's facial expressions and the way they moved and spoke. You could see so many emotions but there was barely any sound, just squeaking wheels on trollies and beds moving up and down the hallways, doctors and nurses whispering cautiously every now and then. After a while you forced your attention back onto Simon who was laying peacefully on his bed and slowly scrolling through his phone that JJ had given to him when he was there. Every now and then a small grin would grow on his face, or a little giggle would come out of his weak body. Your phone was on charge on the side table but you chose to leave it so it would charge quicker. You would hear a beep come from it every now and then but you didn't check to see what it was. Simon turned to you and patted the space beside him, he gave you a warm smile as you got up to sit beside him. Once you had settled he started to make a conversation with you but avoiding the subject of what had happened and how he was.
"So how are you?" He asked softly as he pulled you in to cuddle
"I'm fine as long as you are" you replied
He didn't respond.
You could see him looking around the room as if he was trying to find something to talk about...but there wasn't much.
"Did my videos I scheduled for today upload?" He finally said
"I'm not sure, I can check if you want?" You offered
"Yeah please" he smiled and removed his arm from your shoulders.
You reached over to grab your phone from the table and switched the screen on to look through your notifications. Twitter(2) Snapchat(3), Instagram, dad(5), mum(7)...
You froze. What now?
"Well did they upload?" Simon interrupted
"Um yeah they um...they did the notification is there" you said as you quickly continued scrolling.
"What's wrong? Why did you freeze?" He asked
"Oh um, no reason I was just...reading a twitter notification" you quickly put your phone back on the side table and cuddled back into simon, who was obviously confused.
