I knew this was a bad idea. Damn. Why did I do this? I'm going to get myself killed. These words go through my mind over and over as I desperately tried to run away from the Beast. The money for a scale of the Beast can last me 3 months and I can finally buy some new clothes and get some delicious food from the town next over. I've been surviving on fruits and plants for over 2 months now and I'm over it. Drooling over the fantasized food and not focusing on running, I tripped over a tree branch. I felt a sharp pain as I tried to get up. Damn that hurts! Wincing at the pain, I hid behind a tree. With a twisted ankle and the Beast not far behind, I desperately looked around for a sharp object. To my right, there's a spear-like stick that was 1 foot taller than me. Trying my best, I jumped over and picked up the stick. I noticed that it wasn't a stick at all. Even though it was rusted and very old, I can tell that it was a spear. Why is there a spear here? I thought to myself. Shaking my head and returning back to my situation, I came up with an idea.

I crouch down and ready the spear as I wait for the Beast. As the Beast slowed down to track my smell, I readied myself. Ten feet away. Six. Three. One. Go! I threw myself at the Beast and pierce the spear hard into its neck. I wasn't lucky enough and got thrown backwards into a tree. The impact caused me to lose the air in my lungs and left me coughing. However, I did it. I killed the Beast. I moved closer to the Beast and took a couple of scales. I also cut some pieces of meat and brought it home.

By the time I see my house, the stars were already visible in the sky. Sky. Why did my parents name me Sky? Who are my parents anyway? Shaking the thoughts out of my head, I limped home.
"Damien! Damien, open the door!" I called.
"Sky?" A deep sexy voice replied.
Out the door came a 6'3 ft, muscular, handsome guy with hair black as the night, and sharp golden eyes that can captivate you and see through all your lies. Damien. Damien is my caretaker, even though I don't even need one. He is 21 years old and has taken care of me since I was 1. He's like an overprotective father. Talking about fathers, I would sometimes ask him about my parents and if he knows where they are. He would tell me that they're no longer alive and that I shouldn't ask anymore because he also doesn't know them. Although I don't believe him, I stopped because everytime I asked him, he would give me a sad yet hopeful look and I would spend nights trying to figure out what it means.

As I walked inside our house and sat by the fire, I showed Damien the meat I got from the Beast.

"This'll last us a week," I grinned at Damien.

"Where did you get it?" Asked Damien.

"Don't worry about it and just start cooking."

"Where did you get it?" He asked again.

"I went on a hunt and I got lucky. The deer was huge. If I was as strong as you, I would've brought home the whole thing but I'm not so I can only bring this much."

"You promise it's a deer and not something else?"

"Of course! I wouldn't lie to you."

Giving me a look that says Oh really?, he grabbed the meat and started preparing to cook it. Damien started asking, "How's your ankle?"

I had forgotten about it but when he mentioned it, I started feeling the pain again. I looked at it and it was purple-ish red and swollen.

"It hurts but it's not like I'll die from it."

"You will if you keep continuing to hunt for the Beasts."

I knew it was no use trying to hide it from Damien but I still give him a shocked and innocent look. "Beasts? I would never go near them. How can you say that?"

"The scales in your bag gave you away," Damien smiled. "Did you not noticed the smell when you took the scale? And did I not teach you that once the scale is separated from the Beast, it will gives off a weird smell?"

"You did but I forgot about it. Besides," I lied, "I don't smell anything."

"The pain from your ankle probably blocked your sense of smell."

I laughed, "Probably."

After we finished eating, I went to take a bath and when I was done, Damien helped wrapped my ankle in some herbs.

"There, that'll do it."

"Thanks. Now you go take a shower and I'll wash the dishes."

Damien joked, "Sky Ambrose VOLUNTEERED to wash the dishes?!? The world is coming to an end! Everyone, run for your life!"

I gaved him a bored look and said, "Actually, I don't want to anymore. You can do it since you're not going to take a shower."

"I'm going right now!" And he ran upstairs.

"Idiot," I mumbled with a smile. When I finished with the dishes, I went to my room. Damien came into my room when he finished showering and told me to be careful of some guards when I go into town. I told him I will and he left. I thought he was just talking nonsense so I didn't really put much thought into it. And with that, I went to sleep.

For I did not know, that the next day, my life will change and never go back to the way it was before.
