Just two conversations Hero had with the Voice in the Hall of Truth (which is the Light)

Chapter 9 (When Blade and Hero help train Martin's soldiers)

"Martin wants us in the courtyard in half an hour Blade," Herobrine said. Blade nodded. "What are you planning on doing Steve?"

Steve shrugged. "Well, I was planning on sticking with you guys, but that would leave Alex alone and people kept looking at me when I went out this morning, so I think I'll stay here."

"Speaking of which, where is Alex?" Blade asked.

Hero pointed over his shoulder. "Still sleeping. I'll get going, I want to look at something before going to the courtyard. See you there Blade!" With that, Hero left the quarters, closing the door behind him.

He looked down both ends of the empty corridor and walked down, his sword hanging by his side. He didn't meet anyone as he walked and he eventually reached the Hall of Truth. He looked around and, upon seeing no one, opened the door and went inside, closing it behind him. He looked up at the roof of the Hall. Nothing unusual there. Hero took a deep breath and let it out.

"Hey," he said. His voice echoed in the Hall, fading to nothing. There was no answer.

"Come on, I know it's you," Hero said. "I know your voice."

More silence.

He sighed. "Knew I was just hearing things. I just really want some guidance you know? My entire life, I've been thinking that this might happen and now that it has... I'm not entirely sure what to do." Hero turned and put his hand on the door handle to open it.

"You do what you've always done Herobrine. Protect your twin, the Vessel of me."

Hero whipped around, his eyes searching for the source of the Voice. "I knew it was you!"

"I'm actually slightly surprised it took you this long to come and talk to me," the Light admitted.

Hero laughed a bit, then he grew serious. "It should be easier to protect him now right? I mean, there's a lot of people here who are watching for intruders. We're safer now than we were ever before."

"True, but don't let down your guard," the Light warned. "The Dark is cunning and it will try anything to get to your brother. It will throw as many Dark Warriors as it needs to. Now you had better get going, Blade is having a small panic attack."

"What?" Hero asked, his hand going to the door knob again.

"Just go to the courtyard, you'll see."

With that, the Voice of the Light was gone and Herobrine left the Hall of Truth, heading to the courtyard.

Two days after chapter 14 (The one where Steve dies)

Herobrine sat on the floor of the Hall of Truth in the middle of the night, his knees drawn up to his chest. Tears poured down his face but he made no sound. For the past two nights, since Steve's death, he had come here. Each night, he had sat in silence, crying. And each night, he felt the presence of the Light both outside of him and inside of him. He didn't exactly know how he felt about it, but he knew that it was the reason he had come here at night. It forced him to come here.

"Why?" he asked softly.

The Light didn't answer for a moment. "I don't want you to do something you'll regret later."

Hero had no answer for that. So he didn't answer.

"You have to stop blaming yourself," the Light said softly but firmly. "You couldn't have done anything and nothing good is coming from it."

"But I could have done something," Hero argued. "I could have gone in there and rescued him. I could have gone with Notch and Blade and got him out before the Dark got there."

"And if you did, Martin, Neil, Ender, W and Alex all would have died. The Protectors of the Dark would have killed them. You, Steve, Notch and Blade would be running from the Dark with nowhere safe to be. Notch and Blade would die shortly after. Would you really want that to happen?"

Hero knew what the answer to that was, but he couldn't say it. He couldn't admit that Steve dying was the better option. Because that meant that he failed, and that he let his brother down. If he had been paying attention that night, then Steve wouldn't have been kidnapped. None of this would have happened. So even if it wasn't his fault that Steve died, it was his fault that he was captured. And that led to Steve's death. So it was still his fault.

"You're still blaming yourself."

Hero ignored that comment. "Why am I your Vessel now?"

"How did you know that?" the Voice of the Light asked, slightly surprised.

Hero shrugged slightly. The truth was, he had felt slightly different inside since Steve's death, and the fact that the Light had forced him to come here and how it was watching him made him suspect it. The Light's answer confirmed his suspicion. "Just tell me why."

The Light hesitated for a moment. "I don't know."

"Liar."

"Alright then. I know exactly why I chose you but I am not going to tell you. But I will tell you that I am not going to change my mind."

Hero sighed and lay on the ground, looking up at the roof high above. "I guess I don't have a Protector?"

"You are your own Protector. But your family is here to support you, and to help you. Don't push them away."

"Blade isn't part of our family."

"Do you really think that?"

To be honest, no, he didn't. Blade had stuck with them through everything that they had gone through without question, and she had become an honorary part of their family.

"You brought us together, didn't you?" Hero asked.

"Yes. I made a plan a long time ago, and it was time for it to happen."

"You knew we were coming?"

"Not you exactly, but I knew someone was coming. When I saw you and your brother, I knew it was you two."

"Why did the Dark take Alex?"

"You have a lot of questions all of a sudden," the Light mentioned.

Herobrine shrugged. "You told me not to blame myself, so I'm distracting myself. Just answer the question."

"You already know the answer to your question Herobrine. Just think through it. And also, it wouldn't be a bad idea to tell your family, Martin and Neil what you know."

"I'll think about it."

"Anything else?"

"Yeah. How did you beat the Dark and why haven't you done it before?"

"You know that I can exist in many places at once. My power is strongest if I am in one place at one time, which is why I'm almost always not. As to why I haven't done it before, the Dark had shields protecting itself. I could only attack if those shields were lowered and if I was close to the Dark."

Hero nodded. "But the Dark isn't gone, is it?"

"No. You can never truly destroy the Dark or myself."

Hero sighed and stood up. "I should probably get some sleep."

"Alright. Same time tomorrow night?"

Hero scoffed. "Do I have a choice?"
