It's been weeks since I have heard from Sam, I haven't seen him, and all I could think about was how he told me he loved me. Surely he only said it because of the heat of the moment. I had hung out with Kyle a few times, but I have been trying to stay away from guys lately. What I really was in the need of was some girl time with my best friend since birth, Harley. I had called her last night, for the first time this summer, and told her that we desperately needed to hang out. She told me to be over at her house at noon sharp the next day.
I was just getting ready to go over, I was packing my stuff as though I was going on a month long trip. I always brought a lot of clothes with me to her house, because I usually stayed at her house for a long time. It was 11:45 am, she would kill me if I was late. I grabbed my bags and bolted for the door.
------------------------------------------
"WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?!?!?!?!?!?!?" Harley yelled as soon as she saw me get out of my car. I winced as I awaited a bone-crushing tackle from her. Sure enough she wrapped her small arms around me and hugged me so tightly, that I couldn't catch my breath.
"It's--good--to---see---you----too..." I replied trying to breathe.
"Let's go inside! We need to catch up!" She said more enthusiasm that a child in a candy store. Harley dragged me inside her huge house, it was practically a mansion! As soon as I stepped through the front door, all the memories I had of being here with Harley came flooding back; there were the times we stayed up all night long giving each other make-overs, eating tubs of ice cream, and watching Spanish soap operas, even though neither of us can speak Spanish.
We jogged up the stairs to her room, she plopped down on her bed, and I dropped my things by her closet and laid down next to her. "When was the last time we had a sleepover?" Harley asked.
"About a month ago I think." I replied sadly. I felt bad, Harley and I used to have sleepovers every single weekend, and we went a couple months without hanging out. There was a long silence and neither of us talked, but it was a comfortable silence.
"So, Dylan called me last week." She stated out of nowhere.
"Oh yea? What did he want?" I wondered. I was hoping it wouldn't be anything to do with Sam.
"He told me that you and Sam were talking again." I nodded. "SO WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME YOU IDIOT!" She yelled. I cringed and held my ears from the stinging pain her scream gave me.
"I dunno, I guess I just wanted to sort things out before I told you. I mean, it's a bit of a big deal. But, Sam hasn't talked to me for a couple weeks. I've actually been hanging out with my new neighbor, Kyle, I think you would like him." I said with a grin.
"Oh really?" Harley asked. "Well I am glad that Sam finally got the guts to talk to you again, it was about time honestly." I rolled my eyes at her. Figures, she always knew that I liked Sam, and she figured that Sam liked me, but I denied it.
"Well, I really think that you should meet Kyle." I stated. Harley smirked and shrugged her shoulders.
"Maybe. Oh! Hey, by the way, Rachel is having a party tonight, do you want to go?" Rachel was that one girl in school who all the girls wanted to be like, and all the guys wanted to be with. She was the nicest person you would ever meet, and completely different from what you would expect her to be. She was popular and was friends with all the rich people and cheerleaders, but she was also best friends with the nerds and everyone else who you wouldn't expect! She was basically the school sweetheart. I thought for a moment, I really wasn't one to like parties, or going to them, and plus I didn't have anything decent to wear.
"Har, that would probably be really fun, but I didn't bring any 'party-wear' with me." I sighed. Before I knew it, I felt a hard WHAP hit up-side my head. I winced as I rubbed my head where Harley's hand slapped me.
"You idiot! We're the same size! I could let you borrow something! Can we pleeeease go Ivy! I really wanna gooooo!" Geez. She was such a baby.
"Sure, we can go." I replied in defeat.
"YAAAAAAAY!!!!!!!! PARTY TIME!!!!!" Harley yelled with pure excitement.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
By now it was around 6:30 and Harley and I were just starting to get ready. She refused to let me pick out the outfit, and she insisted on doing my hair and makeup. It was a wonder that I even trusted her to give me this little make over.
She had laid out a short dark denim skirt with a red tube top that clung to me perfectly. I slipped everything on when Harley came out of the bathroom, after she just finished getting herself ready.
"Ow ow owwww!" She squealed. "Someone looks hot!" She purred. I couldn't help but burst out in laughter at her ridiculousness.
"Whatever, let's go finish getting ready so we can go!" I exclaimed in excitment. I was surprised actually that I was excited to go to the party, seeing how I usually hated them.
Harley dragged me into the bathroom and sat me down on a stool and began straightening my dark waves, making them pin-straight. It was silky smoothe and my fingers easily ran through it. She then moved on to do my makeup and I grimaced. I wasn't one to wear makeup that much, but mainly because I didn't really know how to wear it. When she was finished I looked in the mirror and I was hardly recognizable. She had given me a simple smokey eye which really enhanced my chocolate brown eyes. I had to admit, I did look pretty good. Before we left, I slipped on a pair of black wedges to complete the look. I took one last peek in the mirror and smiled at myself in the mirror, tonight was going to be amazing.
-----------------------------------------
Harley and I arrived at Rachel's house and there were cars parked all over the street and on the front lawn. We could hear the music pumping loudly, and there were people everywhere. We headed inside and we saw Rachel with a big group of her friends. Immediately, Rachel saw Harley. "Harley! I'm so glad you could come!" She beamed at her, her blue eyes glowing under the dimmed lights, and her blonde hair hanging to her chest. She looked over at me with a big toothy grin. "Who did you bring with you?" She asked.
"Hey Rachel, it's Ivy, don't you recognize her?" Harley chuckled softly, ruffling her hair.
"IVY?????" Rachel exclaimed. "I didn't even recognize it was you!" I smiled at her and shrugged. "Dang girl, you look HOT!" She yelled over the loud music. I felt my face flush, to get a compliment from Rachel was truly amazing. She gave Harley and I each a quick hug and shooed us off to go have fun. Harley quickly found some guy that I didn't recognize to talk to, so I was left by myself. I guess that was why I didn't like parties all that much, because I usually got ditched by whoever I went with. I was navigating around the house trying to find the kitchen to get a glass of water. Naturally, there were couples everywhere, all over each other making out, and people dancing. I reached the kitchen and got myself some water. I turned and saw some guy leaning against a door-way, he was all by himself, and he didn't look like he was having all that much fun being by himself. I was about to go up to him when he turned around, and his bright blue eyes peirced into mine.
My breath suddenly caught in my throat.
Those eyes.....
He smirked at me and slowly approached me, my heart thumping harder with every step he took close to me.
"Well hello there, Ivy."
