I never did know you did I

Alvhilde sat on the rocks of the Giant's Causeway and stared out at sea. There was a time when this place had existed only in her dreams and it had scared her. The ship and the giant man had scared her too but not anymore. Now she would have given anything to see that ship, that giant out on the waves. Instead she heard footsteps and lifting her head to look she saw Njord coming towards her. "What do you want?" she said as he sat down beside her.

"To tell you I am sorry for my behavior in your past, while you grew up. I did what I thought was best for you and I am sorry ....." He trailed of.

"I don't want your apology. I want things to be different. I don't even know who I am anymore. I don't know who you are"

"I am who I have always been. I never lied to you in that. I just thought..... I did my best"

"Njord" she said using his name and not calling him father. "You were an eccentric old man. But you are not are you? I mean sure you are eccentric and you are probably older then I can imagine but you bear the name of one of the gods you told me about. You said my mother's name is Skade, giantess. That I have a brother and sister....  I knew your name and I thought you were named for him not that you were him. If you are a god and my mother is a giant then what does that make me? And after everything, the blood. What am I? I thought I was human but I am not, not one bit, am I?"

"That is not a simple question to answer my dear. You grew up with them thinking you were one of them and that made you more human than many who actually are"

"Don't speak in riddles"

Njord sighed. "Alright. Facts then. You are Giant, Vanir and Light elf.  That is the blood that made you. Through me being a god, whatever that means in this day and age.... you inherited that as well. Then you came here and from what I have understood you have exchanged blood with both Nuada and Lochlann. You have created a bond with both of them. With Nuada it's a bond that binds you together as one. Your blood brought him back and then....."

"Then what?" Alvhilde was fascinated. She did not want to be but she was.

"To bring someone back like you did is not something anyone can do on a whim. Circumstances have to be right. They were on the night you brought him back. And the way you choose to treat things gave him more freedom than it was ever meant for him to have. It changed things. Things that should not have been changed. But it matters little now. When you saved him on these same rocks but in Scotland, what he did after ..... Alvhilde it cannot be done.  It does not work like that."

"Then how does it work? You only create more questions not answers"

Gods can die. You know that. And you should have. But you did not. You adapted to the situation. It's who you are. It's the Silver in you and it's your power of will. You became something new that day. All on your own. Well it's still not that simple, you changed him to. Because he is so closely linked to you he changed as you changed.  He used to be a Light elf and a god, a force of nature. He is more than that now.... And I don't think I fully understood until now what we did that day, my brother and I, when we made that Silver together. It's our blood that made it and therefore also yours. The Silver was always yours."

"But it still does not answer what I am now. Am I a god? And what does that mean? And what about Lochlann?"

"With Lochlann it's the same but different yet again. You did not want him to die so you did not let him. The only way you knew to stop him from dying.... You fed him your blood. It means he is bound to you and to Nuada. It means he might crave your blood, I don't know that for sure. It means not however that he needs it. He is as he had always been only now he is bound to you two as he has never been bound to anyone. He might crave blood but he does not need it to live." He might however need you to live. He added to himself. You and Nuada.
