The Flame

It was Monday evening, and I was walking home, after a long, long, long, day of work. At the House of Law for Vampires, the day had just ended, and I needed to get back on the more important things, such as hunting my dinner, and what type of blood my diet requires. On the sidewalk, I noticed a flyer.

" Garage sale on 12 Remotely avenue north" it read. " Come with dignity"

And of course, out of instinct, I challenged this. Smirking, I followed the directions on the back of the page. And out of the corner of my eye, on the sidewalk, I spotted a rusty old garbage bin.

Hmm......

There was a add behind it. Cautiously, as if it was a trap, I approached it.

That's odd, its the same flyer.

I sprinted down the side walk , and ran like the wind until I reached my destination. 12 Remotely avenue north.

There was an old woman there, and I observed her from head to toe. She was dressed in plain black, and she was expressionless.

She couldn't be over the age of fifty

"Hello ma'am" I said emphatically.

" Hello miss Williams " she replies.

She knows my name. Is this a trap? Something about her makes me think that I have seen her before.

" So, I have my dignity, but I have a question. Why have I come?" I ask quietly.

" Well, as I explain, come inside. Ill make tea, and biscuits."

I followed her inside her home. It was aged, but kept in good care. I could smell the linger of cedar in the air. The house was cedar. But something about it made me feel unsafe. Unknowledgeable. I couldn't pin the right word. She comes back with tea and biscuits. I know I can't eat them, because I'm a vampire, and I will start hallucinating, but I appreciated her efforts.

" Why have you called upon me?" I ask, sounding a bit hostile, but not too much.

" The Flame " she said in almost a whisper.

And that's when I place her. Thirty years ago, Texas. I was a new vampire, being exposed to a bite just a few days ago. She took me in. Gave me value. But she was a poor lady. She did all she could. Claimed that I was her daughter, and collected money from the government for me. I was on welfare. Hunted animals. Then, she took me to the trade center. I used to exchange blood to other vampires for jewelry, or items of value. Until, one rainy, somber day, I came across a young man. He had stolen the Flame. The most prized, powerful possession in history. It beholds the power to shape the world. And that's, how I got myself into this mess. He traded it. I became a goddess. They used to call me Mabel.
