Tough Luck [The Irregular At Magic High School]

-Get a hold of the limited edition lucky key-chain.
-Get a taste of the Special Strawberry Tart, a once-in-a-season dessert in the cafe near school.
-Buy Onii-sama (big brother) the perfect birthday present.

Shiba Miyuki woke up from her bed and stretched her arms and legs. She sat up on her bed with a bright smile.

"Today's finally the day!" she thought to herself and went to her desk.

Flipping through the calendar on it, she saw a bright red circle, circled on today's date, 24th April, with a neat writing next to it saying, 'Onii-sama's Birthday!!! ^^'

Miyuki's smile grew wider and she blushed as she thinks of what her brother's reaction will be towards her surprise tonight.

She washed up and got dressed into a beautiful purple dress she likes. She looked at herself through the mirror and did a little twirl, letting her dress flow around her like a princess.

Then, she saw a splotch of stain on the side of her dress. She pouted with disappointment but then she remembered she can fix it with a swipe of her magic.

Bringing out her CAD in her pocket, she set the activation sequences that is required to activate the magic and project it to her dress. After a short while, her dress illuminated and cleaned from all dirt as if it was brand new.

This is a feat that only a top magic school student are able to pull off. Finishing a magic process in just a mere second or lesser.

"Yosh, let's get going," she said to herself and slung her small pouch to her shoulder. "Time to find that perfect present!"

She went downstairs and prepared her own breakfast. Today, she does not need to prepare one for her brother, Tatsuya, because he's out for the entire day due to work.

She knew that even though she was this eager to surprise him, her brother might not react as happy or surprised as she think he would be. Since he doesn't feel strong emotions anymore.

However, Miyuki wanted to do this not only to celebrate her brother's birthday but also to express her thanks to her brother for all he had done for her throughout the years.

After the incident three years ago, she can never thank her brother enough for saving her life.

She prepared a simple breakfast for herself. A cup of hot chocolate and two pieces of toasted bread spread with milky butter.

After she was done, she returned to the kitchen to wash the dishes and get ready to bake the cake.

She brought out all the ingredients needed for the cake and laid it all up on the table. She had already planned out what she wanted to bake yesterday in her room. Therefore, all she had to do now is to execute it correctly.

She wanted to bake a medium-sized Strawberry Cake.

She followed the steps and mixed all the ingredients together. Pouring and mixing flour, sugar, vanilla essence, strawberries, butter and so on.

Once she's done making the batter, she poured it into a cake tray and placed it into the oven to bake.

She cleaned up the kitchen and get ready to go out shopping.

One last time before she leaved, she took a peeked of her cake in the oven and smiled sheepishly.

Taking her keys and other necessities, she left the house knowing that it will be the best day ever.

But she didn't realized that luck is not always on your side when you need it...
