"So you're trying to say..." I mumbled while stirring my hot chocolate slowly.
"Well.. Your father and I.. We've decided to have a baby!" Mom smiled and grabbed my hand. "We think it will be a boy. A baby brother! I would have killed to have a sibling when I was your age!"
My mind swarmed with thoughts out of my control, but I tried to keep a smile on my face. Mom was really excited about this, the first time I've ever seen her so happy about anything. "Yeah that's... Awesome. Really awesome."
She frowned and looked down to her feet. "I'm sorry Nora. I just, I want to try to make a life for us. You know where we were three years ago, and now we can bring this baby up alright. We'll get through this together, okay?"
"No mom, really. This is great! Does Greg know yet?.." I trailed off, biting my lip. I don't know if Greg would like this very well. He loved my mom very much, but he was all business.
"Of course! He decided that I should be the one to tell you about this," she added quickly "We've only known for a couple of weeks though."
I nodded and grabbed the mug of hot chocolate, heading towards the stairs. "Can I go ahead and tell Trae?"
"Of course honey," Mom laughed. I had forgotten what her laugh sounded like, and I smiled. She was the best woman I knew, now she was finally getting what she deserved.
"Love you mom." I whispered as I climbed the steps.
I got on my laptop and checked out my E-mail a little bit before grabbing my phone.
Trae has been my best friend since the third grade, when he mentioned that he loved being alone. I decided that we should be alone together, and he agreed. I remember that he kind of reminded me of Superman, which is when I first decided to talk to him. Kind of an odd comparison, but it just fit.
Not even a minute after I texted him, he replied back.
Trae: Whoa! You realize what this means, right?
Me: Uh, there's going to be a sixteen year age difference between me and my baby brother?
Trae: Well yes, but it also means your mom and Greg kinda..got down and dirty c;
Me: I'm trying not to think about it, don't remind me!! Hey, do you wanna go out to Starbucks tomorrow afternoon? I'm in desperate need of a PSL.
Trae: I would but I can't. Charlie's birthday party needs supervision.
Me: Ugh! Stinking Charlie.. Hey I'm going to go for a walk. Can I talk to you later?
Trae: Anytime man! Catch you later :P
Practically falling down the stairs, I grabbed a water bottle. Wait.. Grabbing the keys on my way out of the house, I patted Kermit on his hood.
Maybe a walk on the beach is just what I need.
