Dead Space: Rearmed
Prologue
So peaceful. I lay there on a beach, in the nice warm sand. I look to the left and see that my beautiful girlfriend, Raven, is right there next to me. I stood up and she stood up with me. I grabbed her hand and looked at her. She looked back with her beautiful blue eyes. There was yellow in her eyes so I could tell she was happy. I leaned forward and gently kissed her on her lips. She walked off to pick up her flip flops that she was wearing.
I heard a scream and quickly turned to Raven. But she wasn’t there. Instead of Raven stood bloody, corpse-looking creature, with two giant spikes for hands. Its stomach was torn open with two smaller hands popping out, and the bottom jaw was missing and was replaced with giant sharp teeth/fangs. It started charging towards me. I quickly looked around trying to find a weapon, but there was nothing. It raised its arm and stabbed me with its blade.
Chapter 1
“Andrew!” I jumped up in shock. I tried to see who called my name, but I couldn’t see anything, too blurry. “Haven’t you slept at all lately?” the voice said. Then I remembered the voice. It was my old training officer, Harold Debt. “Hello? You awake?” he asked. “Yeah” I replied. I stood up and tried to remember where I was. I looked around. Oh yeah, I was in the Communications Center. I started to stretch a little and moved my long brown hair out of my eyes.
I walked up and stood by Harold. He was an older guy. The usual short grey hair, wrinkly skin, but he was tall! Taller than me and I’m a little more than 6 feet tall. He looked down at me and said “Well at least you didn’t die on me.” I replied “That would suck. Going down without a fight.” He chuckled. There were two other guys with us, working on computers. “So what’s going on?” I asked. He looked at one of the other guys, the guy with a tattoo of a dragon on his wrist. “Wilson, main screen please,” he said.
I watched as Wilson pressed a few buttons then a holographic projection of the USG Gladiator popped up. I knew the ship, Raven was on it. “What’s wrong with the Gladiator?” I asked. Wilson took a deep breath and said “The Gladiator was on a pick up mission after the incident on the Sprawl, to pick up any fragments of the marker. A few days ago we lost contact with the Gladiator. At first we just thought they were having problems with their communications. So we gave them a day just to make sure, but then we discovered something. Their communications are fine. After they left the Sprawl, it’s like someone disabled the comms so they couldn’t send a distress signal.”
I immediately started to worry. I was afraid to ask but I had to “Raven?” He looked at me “We don’t know” He answered. I looked at him and he looked back. I know what you’re about to ask” he said. He knew me too well. “So?” I asked. He looked at me “Get your gear; I’ll have a shuttle ready for you.” “Thank you” I said. He nodded and I left heading towards the armory.
I stood in the middle of the armory, looking at myself in the mirror in front of me. I had my advanced suit on, with the helmet off. My hair fell in my face so I grabbed it and the rest of my hair and put a bandana over it. “Maybe I should cut my hair” I said to myself. I started thinking about what’s to come. One guy against more than likely thousands of Necromorphs, but I would do it for Raven. I grabbed a plasma cutter and holstered it on my belt then grabbed my pulse rifle, loaded a fresh clip then grabbed a couple of mags. I looked in the mirror again and watched as my helmet slid over my head. I left the armory and headed for the shuttle.
Chapter 2
I sat in the shuttle next to the pilot. I actually knew him. Robert James, good friend of mine when I was growing up. He didn’t look at me but he asked “So you think you’ll find her?” “I sure hope so,” I replied. A few minutes went by “There she is,” Robert said. I looked forward and saw it, the Gladiator. Robert opened the comms “USG Gladiator, this is CEC shuttle 337 requesting permission to land over.” A few seconds went by and nothing happened. He tried again “Gladiator, requesting permission to land, please acknowledge.” Still nothing. “Just drop me off, I’ll go in on foot,” I told him. He replied “Understood. Entering gravity in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.” The shuttle started to shake a little. I started feeling a little dizzy. Robert grinned and looked at me “You alright?” “Just fly,” I snapped. He laughed.
