Eyes the size of sunflowers
Filled with wonder and joy,
Wilt to measly baby seeds
The second you deploy.
You turn your back and take a step,
I'm met with a sea of green,
A single tear rolls down my cheek
As I question why God is so mean.
I lay in bed and close my eyes,
Praying my crying doesn't wake the kids,
I toss and turn and clutch my chest
At the war behind my eyelids.
