It was a warm October day at Odd Squad headquarters; and Ms. O was just finishing her list of rules for the new recruits that were expected to show up at 10:00 a.m. There was a knock on her door; and after
stretching to get the tiredness out of her arms; Ms. O said; "Come in." The door opened, and the Odd Squad Doctor; Dr. O; entered her boss's office.
"Ms. O; You wanted to see me?" the doctor asked.
"Yes; Dr. O; I want to ask your opinion about the new recruits coming in tomorrow." Ms. O said to the Odd Squad medic.
Dr. O came into the office; walked to the director's desk, and looked at the list of recruits that were coming in that day. The list read as follows:
New Recruits for October

2). O'Ryun
3). Othello
4). Oneida
5). Oppenheimer
6). Onyx
"What is your opinion about these new recruits; Dr. O?"; the director asked; looking at the one person who's opinion mattered to her; more than her own.
"Well"; Dr. O said," Out of all 6 recruits; I think that Recruit Oppenheimer; shows the most potential."
"Why do you say that?"; Ms. O asked.
"He is a doctor who is transferring from the Chicago Squad; he has worked for Mr. O; the director; for 6 years; & he scored a 187 on his SDEs." "He is smarter than me; but not by much; maybe I can learn some new things from him."; Dr. O said.
Ms. O asked,"What is the SDE?"
Dr. O looked at her director; like she had a third eye in the middle of her forehead. "You do not know what the SDE is?" "How did you become the director of an Odd Squad Unit without knowing what the SDE is?"
Ms. O said,"You remember your place; Dr. O; I am the director; I do not need such insubordination from one of my agents; even if it is one I trust immensely."
Dr. O hung her head, and said,"Forgive my lapse in judgment; Ms. O; it just took me by surprise; is all." "The SDEs are the Standardized Doctor Exams required by all Odd Squad doctors to take before they become a qualified doctor at any headquarters now."
Ms. O asked,"Who; in your opinion; is the next with the most potential?"
Dr. O looked at the list for a few minutes; then shook her head,"I honestly can't say; anyone of the remaining 5 could have good potential; we will just have to wait, and see."
Ms. O said,"Thank you for your opinion; Dr. O; I knew I can count on you for good advice."
Dr. O said,"Thank you; Ms. O." "Is that all; Ms. O?"
Ms. O said,"Yes; Dr. O; that is all."
Dr. O nodded her head; and turned to leave. Dr. O had just put her hand on the doorknob when Ms. O said,"Actually; no; that is NOT all."
Dr. O turned around; and looked at the director; quizzically.
Ms. O walked from behind her desk; and over to the O.S. Dr.
"If you ever step out of line like that again, and question me like that; I will not hesitate to take appropriate measures to correct the oversight; Is that understood; Dr. O?"
Dr. O looked at the O.S. director solemnly, and nodded her head. She walked back to her office.
Three hours later; there was a knock on Dr. O's door. "Come on in; the door's open." The door opened, and in walked Agent Orchid.
"What's the matter, Orchid?" Dr. O asked the young agent.
"What makes you think that something is the matter; Dr. O?" Agent Orchid asked while she fiddled with her cuticles.
Dr. O said, " You always mess with your cuticles when you have something you want to talk about, but aren't sure what to say."
Agent Orchid looked sheepishly at the O.S. Dr; and said, "You're right; It has to do with one of the new recruits."
Dr. O looked at Agent Orchid, and asked,"Which recruit are we talking about, Agent Orchid?"
Agent Orchid looked at Dr. O; and said,"Recruit Oneida."
"What's the matter with Recruit Oneida?" Dr. O asked.
"It's just that I know her from my last assignment in Chicago, and we didn't exactly get along." Agent Orchid said.
Dr. O said,"Hold up, Agent Orchid; I'm not sure why you are telling me this, but I am just the Odd Squad doctor; if you have any problems regarding personnel; please take it up with the Director."
Agent Orchid took a deep breath, and said, "I can't do that."
Dr. O looked at the young agent quizzically, and said, "Why not; may I ask?"
Agent Orchid said," Ms. O and Recruit Oneida have a 'special relationship'; and she won't listen to me!"
Dr. O looked at her watch, and said,"I have a consultation in my office at this moment; my advice to you is to figure it out on your own; Agent Orchid."
Dr. O began walking away, then turned back around. "One more thing, Agent Orchid." "NO spreading RUMORS, and NO MISCHIEF." "DO YOU UNDERSTAND?"
Agent Orchid gulped, and said,"Yes; Dr. O."
