It all starts on that day. The day that would change all of our lives forever. The day that we would all remember, for as we would all live. I woke up on the ground in the middle of nowhere. I couldn't remember anything except my name, age, and birthday: Brooke Collins, thirteen, and June twenty-second. I had a throbbing migraine, but that didn't stop me from getting up and looking around. Everything looked the same: just bright green trees and bushes and brown bark and twigs. I was standing on a large patch of grass, covered in leave and branches from the nearby trees. All of a sudden, I heard a scream that would have shattered my eardrums if it had been any higher pitched. I ran towards it, trying to find out who it was coming from. I had somewhat of an idea, what direction it was coming from: definitely north of me, maybe a little bit the the west. I have really good control over my senses. I have twenty-twenty vision, a perfect nose and ears that could hear a dog whistle.
It took about three minutes to find who was screaming; it was a girl with short blonde pigtails and light gray eyes. Her eyes were so light they were almost white. They were the closest thing you can get to white, without it being unclassified from the category of gray and silver.
"Thank God someone came over here!" Her voice was quiet and high pitched, "There's something over there in the bushes!"
I walked over and saw the bushes rattling. I pulled back the branches to reveal a small brown rabbit, with white spots.
"Are you kidding me?" I said.
She gave a sigh of relief.
"So, I haven't formally introduced myself," she said holding out her hand, which I refused, "The name's Tori Scott and my favorite color is light pink, your turn."
I replied, "Name's Brooke Collins and that's all you need to know."
She was wearing a light pink shirt with a snowman on it and white shorts that were covered in dirt, so they were closer to patchy tan, than white. She was a lot taller than me, which didn't really give away anything about her age because I'm short compared to a ten year old (take in note I said I was thirteen).
"We should get moving it's almost dark," I said as I looked through some of the trees, seeing the sky turn pink. We were walking for about ten minutes in silence, when she said, "My feet hurt!" in a whining tone.
"Deal with it," I replied. She was one of the most annoying people I've ever met. After a few more minutes of walking I heard voices up ahead.
"Shh, get down," I told her.
"C'mon we have to keep moving!" said one voice. The conversation continued.
"No Ethan, we need to rest, right?"
"I have to agree with Drake on this-wait, did you guys hear that?"
Tori had just sneezed, and it was loud. For someone with such a quiet voice, she certainly had a loud sneeze.
"No bless you?" she whispered to me.
"Not the time," I said, through gritted teeth, glaring at her.
Their footsteps were growing ever closer. I took off through the thick brush to get to the other side of the three voices, leaving Tori there by herself.
"Ahh!" I heard as they found her. It was the same scream I had heard just minutes ago.
"Who are you!" screamed one wearing blue.
"Drake, chill, you're scaring her!" said one in black.
"Back off," I said, emerging behind them.
"Where the hell did you come from?" said the last one, who was dressed in green.
"That's none of your business. Now, leave the poor kid alone." I knew I was probably the youngest one there since they were all at least three inches taller than me, but I didn't care. Nobody should be treated like that, no matter how annoying they were.
