Alexei opened his eyes. His head ached and he felt nauseous. Lying on his front, a crumbling wall with metal beams lay above his back pinning him harshly to the floor beneath him. His hair was laced with sweat and grime that stuck to his face, making him feel even more discomfort. Alexei's arms weakly pushed his pale, charred body off the ground and attempted to move some of the heavy weight on his back.

The boy now stood, half limping and holding onto any stable surface to push himself towards a hole in front of where he awoke minutes before. Agonising pain trickled through his veins then wracked his body with sharp convulsions, throwing him back down to the floor before he saw darkness.

Elsewhere...

Jack peered round a corner. He confirmed it safe to continue and led the small group on. Their task was a simple supply run, raiding shops they hadn't visited and past ones they hadn't finished in.

The strong wind blew his greasy jet black hair from his chocolate eyes. He wore a dark, dirt ridden trench coat that flowed in time with the winds harsh breezes with a discoloured grey hoodie beneath it and a torn crimson bandana with reflective sunglasses hanging loosely off his nose.

In front of him was their leader, an old man named Dean. He was around his mid 50's with grey hair swept back like a greaser. A pistol resided on his right hip, probably the only thing he has left from the beginning of the apocalypse.
No one knew exactly what happened, except Dean had seen some shit.

'Look ahead, is that a bunker?' One of the men pointed out.

Jack looked to Dean. Should they risk it? Supplies were low all over town. Besides they had guns, they could just shoot anything that moved...
After a pregnant silence, Dean sighed and pushed his way forward.

'I want the best 3 shots to go in, suppressed fire only. We don't need any extra attention than what could be in there.'

No one hesitated or questioned Dean's word. Half of the group moved off to the side lines, leaving Dean, Jack, and a buff woman named Lucy at the front to go in.

Jack walked ahead of the other two. His body went tense at every crack and spark that flew. This place was an absolute wreck. Forget no living human, even the undead couldn't survive this. Beneath him the tiles cracked from being walked on and spider webs clung to his limbs.

It was halfway through his exploration of a cabinet that he heard profanity shared between Dean and Lucy. As he walked over his view of their discovery was blocked by their thick coats. Noticing his entry, Dean turned and spoke in a near anxious tone.

'There's a kid in here.'

'Alive.'
