Chapter 3

*Still 3 months ago*

I was happy that it was finally Friday. I had a long, stressful week and I needed a day to myself. People don't understand that working at a salon can be just as stressful as any other job. Especially when it's your salon. When I'm not ordering supplies, paying the bills, or making sure everything is in order around the shop, I'm on my feet for hours on end washing, perming, treating, curling, cutting, and styling hair. This "me time" is long overdue.

I planned to get a manicure and a pedicure, go shopping for household needs, and go out with my girls tonight. First I needed to call my shop and remind my staff that I wasn't coming in, then I was off to the shower. Once the water hit me, I was in a world of pleasure. It was January in Georgia, still cold as ice and this hot water was giving me life. I brushed my teeth & washed my face & just as I was about to get out of the shower, I decided to just sit & let the water hit me for a couple of minutes.

As soon as I was getting out, my phone started ringing, I jumped over my king sized bed to get it off of the nightstand. Mariah's name and picture flashed brightly on the screen.

"Holà!"

I yelled into the phone while settling in the bed to lotion myself.

"Hey boo, with your lil' bilingual self. Goodmorning!"

Mariah greeted.

"Buenos dias mamì. What's new?"

I replied. Mariah always has something going on.

"Welllllll... I just woke up not too long ago & Tony has the nerve to call me trying to argue girl... oooohhhh he pisses me off!... but anyway, i'm not going to let him get to me because I remembered that today is FRIDAY & i'm going to go out and have a bomb time with my girls! I want to turn df up & then some. I need it!"

She whined.

"Girl, same here. I've called off, I just need some me time. Work has been tiring me out and I just need to free my mind."

I agreed.

"So i'm saying, what's up? What are you wearing tonight? What's the deal brownskin?!"

Mariah asked.

"I have no idea. I have a couple of errands to run so I was just going to pick something up when I leave the nail shop... What are you wearing?"

I replied.

"I was going to pick something up later too, but I need my feet done as well so can I just tag-a-long with you? Pleaseeeeee?"

She begged.

"Of course girl! I should be leaving in about an hour."

I said while checking the time on my clock.

"Okay, let me get my lazy self out of bed & get ready. I'll be to your place in about 45 minutes."

Mariah said timing herself.

"Great. I'll see you when you get here."

"okay. bye."

She said before hanging up.

I made my way to the radio, plugged my phone into the AUX cord & started blasting Money Baby by K Camp. As soon as the song started I danced into my walk-in closet to find something to wear. I grabbed my bleached distressed skinny jeans & put on my red, white, blue, and black Marilyn Monroe long-sleeved graphic tee and my red, white, and blue Jordan 1's. I planned on curling my hair tonight so I just put it into a messy high bun for now & curled my bang. Once I added my mascara & earrings, I was all ready to go.

While waiting for Mariah to arrive, I decided to find something light to eat for breakfast. I grabbed an apple and my phone to sit down and check my email. I noticed I had a missed call from Kinsley. My phone didn't even ring. Maybe it wasn't meant for us to speak anyway. I haven't spoke to him since he gave me all of that attitude earlier this week. He's been calling since. I miss him honestly.
