A loud and croaky yawn escapes my lips. A once gentle rocking of my shoulder has now become a hard shove, forcing my eyes to open ever so slightly. "Oh my god Nikki, if you don't wake up soon I will burn your toast!" moaned a deep caramel voice. As annoying burnt toast can be, with crumbly bitterness encased in every bite, that threat was no longer effective. Everyone has a flaw, and sadly my brothers flaw is burning every possible edible thing. Memories of charred bread and even chicken strain to my mind, streaming through every nerve in my brain. These recollections seemed so far away and unreal, like I'm trying to grab the edge of cliff, only to realize I'm already on the ground.
"I'm getting up! Yo, Steven, try not to set the house on fire ok?" I retort, suddenly noticing he has already left. That was weird, he normally at least says good morning... As I see that he isn't coming back in, I drag my back up into a sitting position, bringing my arms and head with it.
The warm glow of the sun hits my skin as my feet carry me to my white window, so plain, I would've preferred if it was blue. I rest my sleepy elbows lazily on the window sill as I watch the sun set and as it hides away behind the endless roof-tops before me, like a sulking teenager refusing to socialize. I do love mornings when it's such a sunny day like this.
By the time I shake myself out of my morning haze I am already in the kitchen. "Great Steven, did you even listen to me?" I moaned to myself as I pick up little pieces of ash, knowing all to well that this was probably once a slice of multi-grain bread. I remind myself that it would be best to just think these things, because everyone is trying to get a goodnight's rest.
My toes slide smoothly into my worn-down flip-flops, feeling as comfy as my plush linen. I slam my hand on the door nob with determination and excitement, it is late Sunday morning, I better run down to the beach soon to claim my territory or those savage tourists will! The door glides open as graceful as a ballerina and I scramble on my uncoordinated feet, out the door.
Star's glisten in an ever-changing pattern, almost like the unpredictable emotions of the sea. An unforgiving rush of bitter cold air runs through the air as if it was lead by a stampede of bulls. "I am so happy with how warm it is today, the clouds will provide a cooling touch to this already sunny day!" My voice echoes through the empty streets. I look enthusiastically into the sky, "wow the sun is so bright, the ocean would be just the right temperature!" The moon glistens in response.
"How was it dear?" a soothing voice enters my ears. "The park was great! I don't remember much of it, or any of it to be honest. I must just be so excited that it's slipped my mind" I reply as I look at the back of mum's head. A small wave of uneasiness washes over my body but disappears as fast as it came.
I snuggle into the ruffled lace of my top sheet. That was fun, I should do it tomorrow! I look across my empty room to the blue window I looked through that very morning. The sun rises slowly and expands its beautiful rays of lights through the window of darkness. Wow, it's so late, I should go to sleep, I think as I drift into the dark abyss of sleep.
