Chapter 11 - 14

Jaune pov

I was fighting Cardin. He laughed at how exhausted I was. I swung my sword, but he dodged it and hit me with his mace, causing me to fall to the ground. I got up and tried again, but he used his mace to block it.

Cardin: This is the part where you lose.

Jaune: Over my de-

He kicked me in the gut. I fell to the ground and he was about to strike until the power went back on.

Glynda: Cardin, that's enough.

She faced the class.

Glynda: Students, as you can see, Mr. Arcs aura has now dropped into the red. In a tournament style duel, this would indicate that Jaune is no longer fit for battle and that the official may call the match.

She turned to me.

Glynda: Mr.Arc, it's been weeks now. Please try to refer to your scroll during combat. Gauging the aura will help you to decide when it is appropriate to attack or when it is better to move to a more defensive strategy. We wouldn't want you to be gobbled up by a beowolf now, would we?

Cardin: Speak for yourself.

She turned back to the class.

Glynda: Remember everyone! The Vytal Festival is only a few months away! It won't be long before students from the other kingdoms start arriving at Vale, so keep practicing! Those who choose to compete in the combat tournament will be representing all of Vale!

The bell rang and I was starting to wonder if I even belong here.

- scene change-

Sonic pov

We were having lunch while listening to Nora's story.

Nora: So... their we were... In the middle of the night...

Ren: It was day.

Nora: We were surrounded by Ursai.

Ren: They were Beowulf's.

Nora: Dozens of them!

Ren: Two of them.

Nora: But, they were no match. And in the end, Ren and I took them down and made a boatload of lien selling Ursa skin rugs!

Ren: She's been having this reoccurring dream for nearly a month now.

We looked at Jaune, fiddling with his food.

Pyrrha: Jaune, are you ok?

Jaune: Yeah, why?

Ruby: It's just that you seem a little... not ok.

Jaune: Guys, I'm fine... Seriously, look!

He tries to fake a smile. He then looks towards Cardin to see him picking on a bunny girl.

Pyrrha: Jaune, Cardin has been picking on you since the first week of school.

Jaune: Who? Cardin Winchester? Nah... He just likes to mess around, you know? Practical jokes.

Ruby: He's a bully.

Jaune: Oh please... name one time he's "bullied" me.

Blaze: The time he knocked your books on the floor.

Silver: Or the time he got your shield stuck in the door frame.

Sonic: What about the time he shoved you into one of those rocket lockers and launched you out the school?
