Dawn:
"Ms. Bills please call 508. Ms. Bills 508"
I slowly opened my eyes. My eyes adjusted to brightness of the room. Everything is so light. So bright.
I looked around the white room. I saw a few machines, with wires and cords all hooked up to me and the wall. The room felt empty.
By the door, a short brunette walked by with a clipboard in her hand.
"Um, excuse me miss?" I try to choke out. My throat feels so dry. She didn't hear .e
I cleared my throat,
"Excuse me? Hello?" I say this time louder.
The brunette stops, waits for a moment then slowly turns over and looks at me.
"Miss Springston? You are up? How are you feeling?" She comes over and shines a light in my eye.
"I was actually wondering if I could get a glass of water?" I replied.
"Oh. Of course ma'am. I'll be right back with your water."
I waited in silence. Listening to my surroundings. People are every where. White coats and bright lights. Clipboards clutched in their hands.
Am I in a hospital?
Why would I be in a hospital?
"Here you so ma'am. Your water. " the girl handed me a blue plastic cup with cold water inside it.
"Thank You. I was wondering, where am I?"
"You are at Seattle Grace Hospital. About 8 years ago, you got into a crash with your parents. You've been in a coma for those 8 years."
She comes over to me and listens to my heart beep.
"What is the last thing you remember, sweetie?"
I thought for a moment. The last thing I remember is waking up in this white room. Like 15 minutes ago.
"I can remember when I woke up." I told her shyly
A sad smile came to her lips.
"Do you know your name?" She comes to sit beside me.
"Uh.. no. " I felt a feeling settle in my chest. Sadness.
"You are Dawn O Springston. Age 18. You lost both your parents. No other family members available to take you in. It seems you have amnesia. How are you feeling? "
So many things to wrap my brain around. I was in a coma. I lost my family. I can't remember shit.
"Overwhelmed. Can't wrap my brain around the fact that I was in a coma." I reply looking out the small window near the bed.
"We are going to have social services come and help set up a bank account for you and help you find your way, but for now just rest." She lowers the clipboard to her waist and walks out.
I take a deep breathe. Most people would kill to have a blank slate and here I am wishing I just died in the crash.
But I do plan to do what she told me. Rest.
A Few Days Later
The days went by in a blur. A bunch of tests were done in me. Still don't remember anything but I'm physically fine. The doctors say I might not ever get my memory back and I should start to think about who I want to be.
A girl with short blonde hair and a small pencil skirt comes clicking her heels towards my room.
"Hello Dawn. It's Dawn correct?" Her voice was high pitched with a tone of an accent.
"Yes." I reply a little to fast.
"Hi, I am Katie. I am here to help you get an ID and help set up your bank account ect. "
I nodded my head and offered her a seat.
"Now I am going to give you some homework. I want you to look for a house to stay at. We are granting you $200 000 to start. That includes clothing and food plus housing."
A nurse near by nearly choked on her water.
"First things first, let's go get you a phone. Now I bought you one outfit on the house. I'll leave the bag here and be back in about 20 minutes. " she gave me a smile, put the plastic bag on the bed and walked out, closing the door behind her.
I quickly opened the bag to reveal a pile of neatly stacked clothing.
Taking out the first item, I look it over. It is a black bra and matching undies. Next I take out a black crop top and some high waisted light blue jeans. I finally take out some grey ankle socks and some white convers.
Time to get dressed!
A few moments later after I am throwing my hair into a messy bun, I put on my knitted beige sweater, I heard a knock at my door.
"It's Katie. I was wondering if you are ready to start looking for that new phone of yours?"
I could hear her muffled voice through the door.
I open the door and throw her a smile.
She returns my smile and starts to circle me,
"Girl you look beautiful!"
I gave a small laugh, "Why thank you!" And gave a small twirl.
"Now are you ready to go?" She asked.
"Yes I am so ready to leave this hell hole."
