You stand by the admittance booth outside the amusement park, waiting for Louis to emerge from the sea of families and tourists making their way inside.

You tug at loose strands of your hair, both longing and dreading this date. Though you’ve been going out for about a month, every date fills you with so much nervousness as if it’s the first.

But this has to be the most nervous you’ve felt yet. And you know it’s because of what Louis wants. It shouldn’t be this big a deal, but for some reason, it’s different with him. Every time you think of kissing him, a lump forms in your throat, practically cutting off your air. It also makes your face turn bright red, which you absolutely hate.

‘At least I can just blame it on the weather,’ you think, the chilly air pinching your cheeks. You feel them get hotter as he finally appears. Once he spots you, he breaks into a grin and jogs over to where you are.

“Hello, love, been waiting long?” He immediately curls his arm around your shoulder and escorts you into the park, the usual enthusiasm obvious in every step he takes.

“As a matter of fact, yes,” you say, escaping his hold and smiling at him while walking backwards. “Just because it’s your birthday, that doesn’t give you the right to keep me out here all cold and helpless.”

He rolls his eyes but rips off his beanie and plops it on your head with a smirk. “There, better?”

“Mhm,” you say, beaming. You’re starting to feel more at ease. “Happy birthday, by the way.”

“And a happy Christmas Eve to you,” he says, pulling the beanie down to cover your ears. He’s looking at your lips—which you hope to God aren’t quivering—but as soon as he starts to lean in, you back away from him again.

“Come on, let’s get a move on. They close early today.” You run off to the first line you see, wishing with all your might the ride will be way too fast to get a kiss in.

Louis quickly catches up, a knowing look in his eyes. He sees what you’re trying to do. He actually loves how you’ve been playfully dodging him all this time, but today, he’s determined to win.

‘Not gonna happen,’ you think. You’re relieved to see that the seats in this ride are almost an arms-length away from each other. Once you both get strapped in, you notice him glaring at you as if saying, ‘Really?’

You just shrug and swing your legs happily. He shakes his head, but a devious smile forms. He says something just as the ride makes a loud buzzing sound before launching.

“What?” you shout.

“Game. On,” he says, and before you can even react, the car jerks forward. You’re let out into the open sky, your heart lurching every time the tracks go up high or upside down. However, the only thought on your mind is bolting it the second you get off.

You do just that and sprint towards the next ride, Louis right on your tail. You can’t help laughing at how ridiculous you two must look to everyone else. ‘You’d think we're little kids playing tag.’

“You can’t run from me forever, [Y/N]!” he calls out.

“I can try!” you yell back over your shoulder. The closest thing without a line is the carousel so you hop onto the platform and hide in a carriage out of his line of sight. You peek over the arm to see him walking along the other side, searching for you.

You start to panic as he gets closer, but a girl about six or seven and wearing pigtails tugs on his sleeve. “Louis? You’re Louis, aren’t chu?”
