Blissful

Their conversations continued for the next week or so, topics ranging from why Yu-Gi-Oh was better than Digimon to why people are evil. The talks were comforting and helped them get out a little bit of stress, and they both liked to think they were good friends. (Y/n) never tried to prod any sensitive topics, and Genji attempted the same courtesy. However, when they exchanged phone numbers and the girl laid eyes on his high-quality, brand new gadget, she was amazed. Hers wasn't bad, by any means; however, his latest version outshone anything she'd ever had. He'd be a fun texter, but they were all in erratic bursts.
After a few weeks, she still hadn't shown him her rough portrait from the first time they met. No real reason, but she was a bit embarassed.
Until, one evening when it couldn't have even been seven o'clock, he messaged her, asking if she wanted to join her at the arcade.
She was surprised, but agreed to meet him there nonetheless. (Y/n) had gleaned from his short responses that he was more than a bit of a playboy, and was a small amount of disappointed. It wasn't the best trait in a friend.
The girl left her sketchbook and pencils and opted for a more casual look, summer coming quickly and the air already becoming humid and dripping. Her apartment complex being close to the center of Hanamura, she was able to take a short walk to the arcade.
She strolled inside not expecting much, and received even less. Even with it being a Saturday night, it was nearly empty save for the few employees yawning and chatting amongst themselves. Genji was intensely playing a game of Pac-Man and somehow failing utterly.
"Ah, geez, how're you managing to lose? It's just the beginning," she commented, pulling up a stool and sitting beside him.
He nearly jumped out of his skin, making her squint. "(Y/n)!" He exclaimed excitedly, abandoning the game and spinning to face her. "Gotta say, I didn't think you'd actually come! Sweet!"
"I'm not sure why I wouldn't," she replied, grinning and pushing him from his seat. "Let me show you how to play." Once she pushed in a coin, she began a new save and was off. The author made it look so easy. In a few minutes and after Genji's annoyed griping, she was third on the all-time scoreboard.
"Name yourself, like… Handsoap. Heh." He chuckled lowly to himself. Shrugging to herself, she obeyed and "HANDSOAP" was beneath "PERDEDOR" and "HISOKA."
The cycle repeated for the next several hours, with the two laughing and the noise echoing throughout the levels. When the clock struck 11:30, one of the groaning employees gestured to the door. "Sorry-not-sorry, guys, but we close now on weekends. Please don't come back, I sorta wanna get fired."
Genji nearly choked on his shrill giggles after that, dragging (Y/n) away by the wrist into the brightly lit streets. Lanterns and street lamps made the puddles and atmosphere yellow from the recent rains.
They found their way back to that same old rooftop, and he sobered up, becoming semi-serious with a blissful smile. "Thank you for coming with me. I really haven't had that much fun in... a while. My brother's getting a little bit more strict."
     "Yeah… what's his name?"
     "…Hanzo."
"Pfft, that's not even that cool or bossy of a name," she scoffed, scooting closer to him.
He snorted, lightly elbowing her in the ribs. "I know, right? Just another case of newer being better."
"Right-o. I had fun too. Thanks for inviting me in the first place. Is that worker always like that, though? Because they're hilarious."
"The many times I've been there, yeah. Hopefully they get better with people. Hopefully." A crack of thunder made her yelp, and then groan.
"Why does it have to be rain season?" She complained, blinking slowly. "It's so rainy!"
"Well, yeah. You want my hoodie before it starts to rain?"
"Nah, nah, my house's probably closer by than yours. Have fun. See you tomorrow, buddy. Pal. Man." She waved awkwardly with a grin, and watched as her friend jumped off the roof, and she paled a but before shaking it off. He'd done weirder things in their friendship.

A/n- Sorry I haven't been updating as much, I'm practically drowning in school work and other ideas for more stuff. I'll try to be more consistent from now on, but honestly I don't think that's gonna happen. This one went pretty off-the-rails, because I know how I want it to end, but I have no idea how I'll get there. Send help. Suggestions?
