Chaos.

That is the one word almost everyone would use to describe how the world was like before the Council had been started up. Although, some would probably say that it was an opportunity. A fresh start, or a chance to right wrongs. Those people were crazy. This wasn't one of those 'order within chaos' chaoses. This was a full blown, 'fall of hierarchy' chaos. And let's just say, the men of the Now don't envy the people who had to bear the Fall. Saying that it was impossible to survive during this period was an understatement.

This Chaos had driven the rich to their knees in front of the poor, the poor to their knees in front of the sick, the sick to their knees in front of the dead, and the dead to their knees in front of Lucifer himself. It wasn't a normal Chaos. Everything forward started to go back. The powerful needed the weak and the wise took advice from fools. If love makes you do crazy things, then the things this Chaos made you do should put you in an asylum.

This was nature at its best. Well, technically, its worst. It wasn't our fault in the beginning because when I say nature, I don't mean the 'birds singing in the trees and flowers in your hair' type of nature. I mean the 'Wrath of God - hurricanes and earthquakes and volcanic eruptions' type of nature. I mean the 'God has set his infernal beasts on you' type of nature. We were not the most powerful beings on this planet anymore. We realised that all this time, when we thought we were the predators, we were actually the prey. And this realisation took quite a toll on us.

Then, like the idiots we were, we introduced this nature to our dear friend science. . . Remind us to never try matchmaking with things we can't control. Ever. Remember how I was talking about infernal beasts? Yeah, well. . . I suppose you can guess what happened. It took us almost twenty years to put those. . . things down or away.

So as you can see, those ninety-eight years weren't very pleasant. Hence the name, the Fall - a fall of order, one where nobody could rise again. But then came the Council of Watchers, who were so determined to fix our broken world, who were so determined to re-establish order, that they scrapped our previous way of living, our previous government and went about setting new laws, new guidelines.

They created a new city. They created Vaythea - Land of the Now. It rose up from the ruins of the Fall. It became a symbol of evolution and was now the pride and joy of the Council. They started the Guard, which became responsible for keeping the people safe and, in the beginning, getting rid of the Chimeras, which is the name we gave to beasts. The Guard in turn created the Boundary. The name itself is pretty self-explanatory.

The Council then hid every single record of the Fall, determined to help the people forget all the suffering they had gone through. Every document, every video, every sound clip was buried in lies just as deep as the Chimeras were in the earth. It was almost as if before the Council, there was nothing but a blank.

After the immediate threat was taken care of, the Council decided to split Vaythea into two different districts. It was quite an obvious division.

We had thinkers, philosophers even: the Men of the Logics. They respected hierarchy and the only thing that they feared was its demise. They despised everything that was out of place and were extreme perfectionists. They were known to be wise in the face of adversity and this wisdom made them immortal, of sorts. They were the Men of the Mind, the Men of Thought. They were the Legends of the past. Residents of the area known as Terra Logicus, they were entrusted with Council tasks.

Then we had the artists, rebels even: the Men of the Arts. They shuddered to think of the shackles of monotony and craved the feeling of adrenaline flowing freely through their veins. If you watched them long enough, they'd put on a fabulous show that would leave you dumbstruck. They were the Men of the Heart, the Men of Impulse. They were the Renegades of tomorrow and they were tasked with defence and offence, if it came to that. They lived in the alleys of Terra Artis.

This is what the world is like now. People are finally functioning again. So maybe the rules are a bit strict, but people are safe and they're surviving.

But haven't you heard? The past always has a way of coming back to us. And this past, with its beasts and ghosts, is coming back with a bang.
