CHAPTER 2

The days passed and my father hardly ever came home, he was too busy trying to repair the ship and fix our financial problems.

Meanwhile I was busy with picking herbs for the pharmacy. There was this deep forest where at the end of it, all the legendary beings were living. In the beginning of the forest were some glades full of grass, wildflowers and different kind of herbs. I found peace going there. I could smell the fresh air, lay on the grass, pick my herbs, relax, think and train. The trees at this part of the forest are the only ones that allow the sunrays come through and create this beautiful scenery.

Although we were at this difficult situation, my siblings didn't seem too care at all. They kept spending money to unnecessary things like new clothes, shoes and accessories while winter was approaching. Winter has these cold rainy days, where you can't go outside. People are dying from the cold, and sometimes heavy snow blocks the roads. I really dislike winter.

Today, father exploded.

"Do you understand that if you spend even one more coin, we are done for? That's it." He said in a stern voice. We are going to sell all the unnecessary things that you always buy without thinking and if that's not enough, we are going to sell the house. If you can't restrain yourself from buying shit, you'll be eating shit." He yelled and took a deep breath in order to calm himself. "The ship must be repaired at all costs. I can't leave my people unemployed and the clients waiting. I don't want to have to worry about you two. You are grownups so think like ones.

"But Daaaad!" tried to protest my sister. My father didn't even let her breathe.

"Are you perhaps deaf?" he asked standing up. I really hate it when he becomes mean. He is the sweetest person on this planet, but you seriously mustn't anger him.

"I'm going to the port. I think I became clear."

"Yes father." We said in synchronization and he left closing the door half heartedly.

It's raining again today. I can't go out to pick herbs. I can't go out to pick anything I can use for drawing. I'm not allowed to use coal either. We need it for the fire.

"When will the rain stop?" whined Mina sitting by the window.

"I hope father is okay." I said while whipping some plates.

"Whoa, it is raining so hard!" exclaimed Mino entering the house, drenched to the bone.

"Did you bring anything to eat?" asked Mina.

"The stupid marked had only potatoes. It's all because of the floods. It's like we've been cursed!"

"Someone probably pissed off a witch again." Commented Mina.

Winter was a tough season from when I can remember myself. Because of the hard rain the rivers overflow and ruin the fields. It is just Mina and Minho lived in their own little bubbles all this time.

I chuckled.

Who must we accuse when something bad and inconvenient happens?

No, not the nature of course. It has to be a witch, a mermaid, an elf, anything else but us.

I prepared the table for lunch and me and Mihno stayed seated waiting for father while Mina waited at the living room. Father said he was returning today.

"Why isn't he here yet?" asked Minho.

"Maybe something came up?" I said to calm myself because I've been having a bad feeling.

"It's been three days." He said again, leaving his fork on the table. He's been on edge these past three days. I didn't know he cared so much.

"Since when did you started to worry so much?" I asked in a low voice.

"Of course I'd worry. Father went to have a very important deal, he said he was going to a clients house to discuss about giving us a sponsorship. This can be a very good opportunity to escape this filthy situation." He said using a disgusted but at the same time indifferent tone.

I suddenly got angry. That's what was all about. Money. What about father. Cold blooded bastard.

"I have a sudden urge to kill you." I said through gritted teeth but that wasn't meant to escape my lips.

He suddenly grabbed me from my neck, kicked my chair and pushed me on the wall behind me with all his might.

"Years now dear sister." He said bitterly and let go off me as soon as Mina entered the room.

I was really taken aback.

I knew we hated each other but I didn't expect a reaction like this. I picked up my chair and I saw him acting like nothing had happened.

"I'm going to find father." I said and grabbed my black cape.

Before anyone could say anything I reached for the door. Just when I opened it, in front of me stood my father in good looking, clean clothes.

I smiled widely in relief.

"Father!" yelled my sister dramatically and jumped into his arms. Minho came too and pushed me out of his way fake smiling at father.

"So how did it go?" he asked. "I assume it went well from the clothes you are wearing." He added.

"What did you bring us?" glimmered Mina.

"For starters, good news." Smiled father.

They finally let him enter the house and he collapsed at a chair.

"Let us just say that all of our problems are now solved. This client will save us. The ship will be repaired and he will give us some money to start working again.

"Something smells fishy." I said. "What does he want back for all this?"

My father frowned. "He just wants 20% of the profits, from the first five sales. He seemed very young, maybe he doesn't know about business." He trailed off.

"He told me to go back again in two days to discuss the details, and no I didn't bring anything." He said turning his attention to my siblings. "I'll stop by the grand market next time so I want you to tell me what you want me to bring you."

Their faces were glimmering like a vampire at daylight. I couldn't watch them anymore.

"I want the most beautiful dress you'll find father! And the prettiest shoes and the most glimmering necklace and-"

"And I want a gold watch and the most good looking clothes you'll find." Mino interrupted her.

"What about you Misaki?" asked me father.

"Me? Oh, I don't want anything,." I said.

"C'mon I'm sure there is something you really want."

"Then what about a rose? I'd like a flaming red one. I haven't draw for a while and I'm missing red. I also want you to come back safe." I said.

My father smiled kindly. "Children. By next week you'll have whatever you want. We'll turn back to our old lives!"
~~~~
These two days passed in a blink of an eye.
Father left at a cold and windy one.  Black clouds covered the sky,  indicating a storm.
"Will you be okay? " I asked full of concern.
The weather was really, really bad and it wasn't going to improve any time soon.
"Don't worry kid. " he said and patted my head.  "I'll be alright."
I sighed as I closed the door.
~~~
The next day I was sitting by the window watching the rain.  The weather hadn't gotten any better and I was really worried.  Suddenly a small figure caught my eye. As it gotten closer I realised it was my father. I stood up in a blink of an eye and ran outside.  He was shaking and he couldn't talk.  His clothes were covered in dirt and his face had some scratches.
Mina came outside and helped me carry him in.
He look so terrified.
Because of the big commotion Minho came down to see what happened.  When his eyes found father he run and crouched down beside him.
"Hey dad,  calm down. "
"He.... He--- " my father tried to speak.
"Hey now take deep breaths and try to calm down... What happened?" tried again but my father just turned to face me.
"He wants you Misa."
