In about 15 minutes, you found a small library. "How do you know this place will have what we're looking for?" Mark asked you as you strolled in.
You snorted, "I don't. This could all be for nothing, and we could be trapped here forever. But it's just about the only thing I can think of..." you sighed, feeling hopeful and hopeless at the same time.
You walked in, and were surprised by the four people there, and the librarian. "About time this freaking author wrote some other characters in." You glared in the distance.
"If I ever find out who did this..." Mark went on, angry.
"Try to remember, Mark," you sighed, "they wrote this out of admiration for you. I don't think they were trying to hurt you."
"Yeah, yeah. Sorry if I'm a little angry that I was transported to another world, my brain was erased, and I had to spend way too much time alone."
"No Mark, I get it. But I know you're sweet guy, so try to find it in your heart to understand."
"Oh, you think I'm sweet, huh?" Mark chuckled, and you elbowed him. "And annoying. Almost forgot that part."
He laughed as you quietly sighed of relief. It was nice to see him more himself, and not the way this weird story thing made him.
You searched for hours, but you found nothing. There were no books with any mention of a 'Fiction Portal'. Maybe it really was made up...
Mark's voice interrupted your thoughts, "(y/n)! I think I found something."
Mark showed you an old, dusty book. The Fiction Portal is only there to those who believe in it. Those who believe they're in a story can go to the Great Forest. It is said that if they climb the highest tree and say "Change the ending of my story", they will be transported to their rightful world.
"So that's what we need to do."
"I guess so. But, where the heck is the "Great Forest?"
"I dunno. We'll just have to find it."
"Hopefully, we can." Then Mark looked up suddenly. "Wait, why would the author just give us the answer? And why in such a weird way?"
"Suspense? Action? I dunno, author stuff."
"Well, he doesn't seem like a very good author," Mark mumbled. Suddenly, a book came off the shelf and fell on his head. "Ow!"
"She?" you tried; nothing happened. You laughed, "Mark, most of these fan fiction writers are girls. Not all of them, but most."
"Still doesn't make sense," Mark grumbled.
"Doesn't matter," you shut the book, "there's our answer."
After checking the book out, you studied it extensively with Mark for hours. You both ended up sitting on the couch together, looking through the book. You knew you both promised to not do anything until after you escaped, but you just couldn't help yourselves. All you had really managed to find out was that the Great Forest was huge, and very hard to find. You groaned. Mark yawned, "maybe we should set out tomorrow. I'm beat."
"Yeah, me too," you yawned as well and stretched. After a few minutes, all you could hear was him breathing while he slept. Before you knew it, you were asleep as well.
