He was staring at me.

Again.

I could literally feel his stares burning into the back of my head. I mean, if I hated someone and wanted to watch their every move, I wouldn't make it so obvious. Then again, I wouldn't hate someone I'd never even spoken to.

"Mr. Mason, would you care to share your answer?" Mr. Burns, our biology teacher, asked.

I sunk lower in my seat - I wasn't paying a bit of attention all thanks to that Nathaniel Mason. But apparently, I was the only one who wasn't listening.

"It is heredity, Mr. Burns" Nathaniel replied.

I could practically hear all the girls in class sigh. Hey, I couldn't blame them. Nathaniel had a deep, mysterious voice with dark hair to match. He was good-looking.

"Good looking?" my inner voice asked. "Honey, he is so much more than that"

So OK, he was a little more than just good looking. But it's not like I'd have a chance with him or anything. He hasn't spoken the entire day unless it was to answer a question. I have seen him wink at a few girls, though.

Oh, how do I know that? He's in all of my classes except P.E. Lucky him; I doubt he'd want to get smacked in the head with a basketball by yours truly.

"Ms. Howard?" Mr. Burns said, pulling me away from my thoughts.

It was then I noticed everyone was waiting for me to answer Mr. Burns.

"Uh, can you please repeat the question?" I asked. Behind me, I heard someone snicker.

Mr. Burns sighed -way too loudly- and repeated himself. I quickly replied, blood rushing to my cheeks.

Turning around to scowl at the person who laughed, my brown eyes met piercing blue ones. My eyes widened in surprise before I masked it with a scowl.

Nathaniel's eyes didn't look away; instead they continued to look into mine. He didn't look the least bit intimidated, in fact, he looked rather... amused?

Eventually Nathaniel's amused expression turned stony as he realized I wasn't going to look away either. Nathaniel looked over my shoulder, and then looked back at me, smirking.

A second later, I heard the thump of my books hitting the ground as they must've tipped over. Blushing furiously, I turned around in my seat to pick them up, and then faced the front of the room for the remainder of the class.

After finally finishing the last class of the day, I walked through the croud of high school students to get to my locker. I started emptying out its contents.

"SAM!" I heard a girlish voice cry from down the hall. Looking up from my bag, I could clearly see it was none other than Kate. Actually, I'm pretty sure everyone else recognized her, too.

"Sammy!" Kate continued to yell at she ran down the hall towards me. By now everyone was looking.

"Shhh, Kate." I said when she reached me. "Haven't you heard the phrase "to be as quiet as a mouse" ever in your life?" I replied.

"Nope" she replied, as cheery as ever. Suddenly, her mood drastically changed.

"OH SAMMY" she cried. "SAMANTHA, WHATEVER AM I TO DO?!"

I just stood, staring at my best friend with her hand dramatically on her forehead for a while, and then I went back to packing my bag.

"Thank you for showing so much concern" Kate sarcastically said after I failed to say anything to her.
