You were walking together, your fingers interlaced with hers, a little smile tugging at the corner of your lips. Just two days ago, she had proposed you if you wanted to go on a road trip with her, driving down the streets of California to reach the paradise that was Big Sur. "Let's disappear," she had said with an enthusiastic smile that reached her eyes. "Let's get out of here. At least for a few days,"
You said yes, obviously. You said yes for a lot of reasons, actually. The first one is that you are in love with her, so spending more time with her is enough to put a smile on your face. The second one is that you really wanted to get away, to really disappear. You wanted to disappear for ever, but you know that's actually not possible. You are finishing your fifth album, you have a tour next year, you have fans to please. But just a few days, with Karlie, just you and her, away from the world, is enough for you.
So now, walking down the shoreline, feeling the softness of her palm against yours, is everything. When she first reached for your hand, a little over five minutes ago, you tried your best to hide your blushing cheeks, ducking your head and looking down at your interlocked hands. "I can see that you're blushing," she had teased you, her lips forming a tight lipped smile.
"I'm not," you had replied, nudging your best friend's shoulder; you smile at the memory.
"Why are you smiling?" she asks, interrupting your racing thoughts. You shrug nonchalantly, and you grin.
"I was just thinking," you reply, unsure of what exactly say to the model.
"About?"
"About this trip and how nice of a friend you are," you answer. You feel her green gaze burning the side of your head, and as much as you want to meet her eyes, you don't turn around; you know you will crumble, because you perfectly know that you have a thing for green eyes and electrifying stares. "I'm happy that we are here, that you are doing this for me," you add simply, shrugging.
"You know I would do anything for you, Taylor," she says quietly, and you can't help but turn around at the sound of her voice; vulnerable and painfully sweet. You want to cup her face, caress her face and push your lips gently against her thin ones, but you know that's not what you are allowed to do. She has a boyfriend, and she's your best friend; you don't want to mess up like you did with Dianna. You don't want to lose someone who means really something to you.
"And you know that I would do anything for you, too," you say just as quietly, forcing a smile. You feel the lump on your throat begin to burn, so you just start thinking about beautiful things that doesn't involve feelings not allowed or best friends loving each other.
She smiles at you, and your heart begins to beat faster when she starts to lean in. You can't help but feel disappointed when her lips land on your cheek instead of your mouth, but you swallow that feeling down and you force yourself to fake a smile, again.
"We are the best best friends," she jokes, throwing her head back as she laughs loudly. Her smile is big and cute that you just want to hug her and squeeze her to death, but you keep your hands to yourself.
"Yeah, I know," you nod, looking in front of you as you repeat her words. "Best best friends."
********
"You are saying that you had a wet dream about her? About Karlie?" Selena, one of your best friends, asks you, as you try to shush her by pushing your right hand over her mouth.
"Shh. Be quiet," you whisper. "And to answer your question: yes, I had a wet drram about her,"
The brunette singer looks at you neutrally, before bursting out laughing and throwing her head back. "Why are you laughing?" you ask, trying to sound offended even though a smile is present in your face.
