I quickly shut the door. I felt sick. I walked away from the door and before I could stumble and fall, I leaned against the wall waiting for the nausea to pass. I shut my eyes and tried to delete the image from my head. I wanted to cry, but I didnt know why. I let out a shaky breath. "If he wants a duffer, then he a duffer." I said to myself. "Whos a duffer? And more importantly, what is it." a male voice called out and for a second I thought it was Zephyr, but when I looked over it was Amos who was standing next to me. "Nobody. And nothing. Just out loud thinking." I said trying to smooth out my dress. "I see." He said glancing around. At that moment the door I had moved away from opened and Zephyr and Ashley emerged holding hands. I cringed and looked away. Amos glanced at Zephyr and went rigid. I glanced back at Zephyr to see him staring straight back at Amos. Then he looked down at me. I felt my face flush and a smirk formed on his lips. I gave him the bird. The smirk left his face and he shrugged, walking away with Ashley. "Im guessing he's a duffer." Amos said chuckling. "You guess right." I sighed. "ALICE!" A loud voice screamed and suddenly I was wrapped in a pair of arms, hair was in my mouth, and a face smashed against mine. "Your drunk." I said peeling Amanda off of me. "Nooooo." She slurred and started giggling. "Bloody hell." I said. "Give me your keys." I said and held out my hand. She slapped it away. "Im fiiine." She said stumbling into me knocking me into Amos. "Amanda, seriously, I'm not letting you drive home." I said reaching out to grab her purse. "Fiiiinnee." She said digging in her purse before slapping the keys into my hand. "Good. Lets go. Bye Amos." I said shooting him a glance before taking her arm. She stumbled along behind me as we weaved through people and out the front door. I opened the back door and helped her climb in slamming it behind her. "Leaving so soon." A voice said in my ear and I let out a small yelp. I turned to face Zephyr. "Are you mad? You almost gave me a bleeding heart attack!" I said feeling my heart rate speed up. He smirked and let out a small chuckle. "Sorry." He shrugged. "Amanda needs to go home." I said gesturing to the car and giving the keys a small shake. His hand quickly grabbed the keys from mine. "What the hell are you doing?" I said trying to snatch back the keys. "Sorry." He said a smile forming on his lips. "You've been drinking, so I cant let you drive." I stared at him. "You've been drinking too!" I shouted trying to grab the keys again. "Ah. But I have a license. You don't." He winked and pointed at me. "I... How..." I stuttered. He was right. I didn't have my license, I had planned to take the test next week. "Plus your a brit. You'd probably drive on the wrong side of the road and get us killed." He laughed. I punched him in the arm. "Shut up." I said but couldn't help the smile forming on my lips. "Get in, I'll drive." He said heading for the driver side. I sighed and got in. He started up the car and Amanda groaned from the backseat.
We were driving down the road in an awkward silence.. Well if you don't count the jibberish from the backseat. I glanced over at Zephyr. He was illuminated by the dash light, casting his features in a green glow, making his hair pitch black against his face. He glanced at me and I quickly averted my eyes, feeling my face go red. I heard him let out a small chuckle. We pulled back into town and I watched as streetlights passed. "Want to get some ice cream?" Zephyr asked rolling to a stop at a red light. "No. I want you to take me home." I said still somewhat angry with him for the whole Ashley thing. "Oh come on. What girl doesn't like ice cream." He turned to face me. "I didn't say I didn't like it, I just said I didn't want any right now." I said crossing my arms. "Why not." His eyes burned into mine and I struggled to find words. I glanced out the window. "The lights green." I said gesturing towards the light. Zephyr sighed and put the car in park. "Are you daft." I said looking behind us. "'Im not moving till you agree to ice cream with me." He smiled leaning back in the seat. A car horn sounded out behind us. "Zephyr seriously we need to move." I said glancing behind us again. "Not till you agree. Why wont you agree?" He asked running a hand through his hair. The car horn sounded out again but this time for over a minute. "Seriously, these people are going to think you are off the trolley. Maybe I don't want to get anything with you, because Ashley hand her hand in your bloody trousers." I said I shouted throwing my hands up, and before I had a chance to put them down, Zephyr switched the car into drive and sped forward right as the light was turning back to red. I looked out the back window to see the person give us the finger from their window. Zephyr glanced at the rearview mirror. I sighed sinking into the seat. He pulled over and shut the car off, the dash light going out, bathing us in darkness. "Alice," He said turning to face me. "That wasn't anything. And it wont happen again." I scoffed. "You must find me daft if you think I'm going to believe that farce." I said. "Actually, I find you incredibly bright." He said leaning closer. "And stunningly beautiful." I felt my heart speed up from him being so close. I felt his hand brush the side of my face, tucking my hair behind my ear. I turned towards him, his face inches from mine. I swallowed hard and in a second, his lips smashed onto mine, his hand running through my hair pulling me closer. I let out a small moan as his other hand moved to the back of my neck. I felt my arms go around him trying to get close. His mouth moved from mine, down my jaw to my neck. I shivered as his lips grazed my skin, making my whole body heat up. I could feel his hand move from my neck to my leg and slowly start inching up my thigh and under my dress. I gasped as he bit down on my neck softly and I can feel him smile against my skin. I let out a shaky laugh, my head feeling light. I feel him pull away and I open my eyes, trying to catch my breath. My heart was racing, pounding in my ears, the only sound I could hear in the silent car besides Zephyr's breathing. He chuckled at me and leaned back in the seat. I was still getting my bearings straight when Zephyr started the car and pulled away from the curb. I rolled down the window, grateful for the air cooling my face. He pulled into the local Dairy Queen. "What are you doing?" I asked as he shut down the car. He smiled. "Getting us ice cream. What do you want?" He asked and I smiled. I glanced at the clock. Midnight. "Get me a midnight truffle blizzard. Seems fitting." I said reaching in my bra for my money. "Don't worry, I got this. Wait here." He said before shutting the door. I smiled as I watched him through the window, not seeing the Mazda Miata pull up next to me until I heard the doors slam. I glanced over seeing Ashley and two of her minions. I shrunk down in the seat as they walked by. I watched as Ashley noticed Zephyr through the window, fluffed her hair, and hiked up her dress. She stumbled slightly as she walked through the door and straight up to him. I felt my blood boil. She shimmied up to him, flipping her hair over her shoulder. I glanced back at Amanda, seeing her still passed out, I exited the car and marched to the entrance. I stepped inside, goose bumps forming on my arms. I walked up to Zephyr who was laughing along with Ashley. "Are we going soon?" I said my voice causing it to go quiet. "What are you doing." Zephyr said glancing at me. "Waiting for you." I said glancing at Ashley. "I told you to wait in the car." He snapped. I felt like I had been slapped. Ashley let out a laugh. "Fine." I spun around and headed for the door. "Your with her?" I heard Ashley ask as I walked away. I slowed down to hear Zephyr's response. "Nah, just got roped into driving her and a friend home. Too drunk to drive themselves." Zephyr laughed and my face burned. I sped up my pace and slammed through the doors. I was seething with anger and walking too fast. My foot caught on the sidewalk and put up my arms as I fell forward. I slid forward on the ground feeling the automatic sting as my arms got scraped up. I picked myself up, feeling tears brim my eyes. I was numbly aware of the blood dripping down my arms as I got in the car. I sat and watched through the window as Zephyr cozied up to Ashley. The tears breached my eyes and fell down my face. I let out a sob and turned towards the window and almost screamed. I opened my door and stepped out. "Hey I thought that was you." Amos said straightening up. "What happened to you?" He asked taking my arm. I hissed as his fingers brushed the scrapes. "Come with me." He said taking my hand dragging me back towards the entrance of the Dairy Queen. I felt my stomach drop as we walked through the doors. The bell dinged above us. "Wait here." He said sitting me down in a booth. He locked eyes with Zephyr and walked right up to the counter. "I need a bottle of water." Amos said his eyes still on Zephyr. I watched as Amos walked back to me, his eyes breaking from Zephyrs and landing on mine. He grabbed napkins from the dispenser and knelt down in front of me. He wet down a napkin with the water, and I glanced up to see Zephyr watching me intensely. I looked back down as Amos held out my arm and pressed the napkin against the scrapes, wiping away the blood.
After he finished, he threw the napkins away and sat across from me. Zephyr was still at the counter, my ice cream sitting behind him melting. "Is that yours?" Amos asked pointing to the cup. I nodded. He stood up and stalked to the counter, grabbing the cup from behind Zephyr. Zephyr shot him a dirty look but didn't say anything. He walked back and set the cup down before sliding across from me. I shoveled a spoonful of it into my mouth. "So what happened. Every time I see you, you seem to be banged up in some way." He asked handing me a napkin. I shook my head. "Him?" He asked nodding his head towards Zephyr. I let out a forced laugh. "Want me to go kick his ass?" Amos whispered leaning close, and for a moment I thought he was serious before I saw the smile playing at his lips. I smiled back. "Are you always showing up when damsels are in distress." I joked taking in another spoonful. "Only the red haired ones." Amos winked and I grinned. I couldn't help but notice how handsome Amos was. His tousled blonde hair hung over his green/blue eyes, a tattoo sticking out from under his sleeve. I felt my heart flutter a bit as he flashed me a smile. He reached out and took my hand in his, the metal from his rings cool against my hand. My stomach somersaulted and I smiled. His thumb brushed over mine. I felt a pair of eyes burning into the back of my head, so I glanced back. Zephyr was giving me pained look, but I realized, I didn't care. If he was going to flirt with Ashley in my face after telling me it wouldn't happen again, I was going to flirt with Amos. I turned back to Amos, his eyes sparkling, his smile widening. My heart gave another small flutter.
"Oh bloody hell Alice, what have you gotten yourself into." I thought to myself.
