"C'mon,Hito-chan,we're gonna be late!"I squealed.My brother Hitori laughed and picked me up onto his shoulders.I knew that I would be too old for this soon,so I planned on enjoying it.I cuddled my head into Hito-chan's hair.
"Calm down,Kana,we'll get to the party in time.You need to learn how to control your energy."he said with that wise tone he used all the time.
"Oh but Hito-chan!I'm just too excited!How could I possibly calm down?!"I exclaimed,messing up Hitori's shaggy brown hair.He laughed again.
"Try counting down from ten."he said,lifting me off his shoulders and setting me down.I grabbed his hand and started counting.
"Ten,nine,eight,seven...um,six,five...uhh.."I started.Hito-chan glanced at me as we prepared to cross the street.
"Four."he said.I nodded and we started across the street.
"Four,three,two,on-"I was about to finish when Hito-chan yelled out and pushed me to the other side of the street.I whirled around to see a car collide with my brother,knocking him down the street and into another car."ONII-CHAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!"He wasn't moving.I had to get to him.I had to wake him up.I started to run toward him,but a man held me back.
"Don't worry little one,the ambulance is on its way.Your brother with be fine."the man said.I struggled against the man,screaming at my big brother to wake up.I felt tears roll down my cheeks.I needed my onii-chan.He was all I had left.
~~~~~~~~~At the hospital~~~~~~~~~~
I practically jumped through the door as Miss Nagasawa,our social worker,opened it.I saw my brother hooked up to multiple machines and wrapped in bloody bandages.Tears began rolling down my cheeks once more as I slowly approached the bed. "H-hito-chan?Wake up..."I croaked quietly,rubbing a very bruised and battered arm. "Hitori!Please wake up!" I sobbed.Miss Nagasawa tapped my shoulder gently.
"Kana,dear,I hate to put this pressure on you,but since you're Hitori's only living relative,they say you have to make the decision."she spoke quietly.
"D-decision?" I looked at her with my tear stained face.She frowned sadly at my pitiful face and I could tell this was hard for her to say.She pulled me into a hug.
"Kana,since you're Hitori's only living relative,you decide whether or not they,um,let Hito sleep forever." she murmured into my shoulder length red hair.I gasped.
"W-what?!I decide if Hito-chan dies or not?I can't do that!"I shouted,pushing her away.Miss Nagasawa gripped my shoulder and asked for my decision gently.I trembled,on the verge of tears once again."I-I don't want Hitori to die.Keep him alive."Miss Nagasawa sighed in relief.
"I'll go tell the doctors."she said,standing up.I turned back to Hito-chan urgently as her high heeled shoes clicked out the door.
"Oh,Hitori,I don't want you to die...You're my best friend..."I whispered,placing my head on his chest and listened to the beep of the machine. "If only there was a way for me to save you."
"There is,Kana!" a small voice said. My head shot up and my eyes flew to the window.There,a white cat-like creature sat,it's tail swishing maliciously.I gasped as the creature lept to my brother's bed in one quick movement."You can make a wish and in exchange,you become a Magical Girl!"The creature's face showed no emotion and didn't appear to be changing.I gulped.
"W-what are you talking about!?"I exclaimed,backing away from the bed.I glanced at Hito and remembered what he always said to me.
"Kana,you are a strong little girl!Don't ever let anyone tell you what to do,you're perfect!Never sin!" his voice echoed.My eyes squeezed shut and I whirled away from the creature,covering my ears.
"No!I will not sell my soul to you!Even if it means I can save Hito-chan!Never!"I yelled loud enough for him to hear,but not enough for the nurses to.
"That's okay,I'll wait.By the way,you can call me Kyubey."it said,then went silent.I slowly turned around to see the creature had jump out the window and sat on the opposing rooftop.I hurried to the window and slammed it shut,drawing the curtains along with it.I then sunk into a chair next to Onii-chan's hospital bed and started to quietly sob into the sheets,for now,not only was I alone,but I had just given up the one chance to save my brother.
