Prologue

A man with brown hair and green eyes, and in a white lab coat, walked down the hall and into a room marked “Experimentation wing- subject: ExperimentOne”. In the room was nothing but a table, a chair, a computer, and a bed. On the bed, hooked up to the computer with wires, was a small boy with black hair and dark brown eyes. He only looked to be ten, and yet the man made a large show of strapping him down. The man then walked over to the computer and typed in a set of commands. As he did that, the boy woke up.

“Thomas? Is that you?” the boy asked.

“Yes. I’m programing in the last of the experiment, though, so you must by quiet.” Replied the man named Thomas.

“Thomas?” The boy asked after another minute or two. “Will you tell me another story while you work?”

“Yes, I suppose. Which story would you like to hear?” answered Thomas.

            “The Warrior of the Sea.”

“How did I know you would ask for that one?” Thomas replied. And so Thomas told Blake the story of The Warrior of the Sea while he worked. But Thomas didn’t notice the footsteps coming down the hall, or the lowered voices from just outside the door, or the doorknob turning slowly. He only realized that someone else was there when they spoke.

“So, Professor Grey, I thought your assignment was to program the abilities into ExperimentOne, not to program thoughts and emotions a well.” The man said in a low voice. Thomas turned slowly with his hands behind his back, not looking surprised to see the man. Unseen by the man, Thomas hit a key on the computer, and the straps holding down Blake loosened.

“I couldn’t stand by and watch you take another child’s life, Mitchel. This boy’s done nothing wrong, and yet you plan on making him a human weapon. I won’t let that happen, not this time.” Said Thomas.

“Still sore about the girl, are you? Well, you shouldn’t be. Not after how you contributed. And in any case, the damage you’ve done to the boy is fixable. Guards, remove the professor. If he resists, kill him. But do hurry; I have work to do.” The man, Mitchel, said, directing the last part at the guards standing by the door. At this they both stepped forwards at the same time, and pointed their Tasers at Thomas. Thomas took a step back, and the guards increased the voltage on the Tasers and fired. Thomas fell to the floor, dead.

“No! Thomas!” shouted the boy, breaking the short silence. He had gotten up while Mitchel and the guards were distracted with Thomas. “You… You killed him! I’ll make you pay!” the boy yelled at them, with tears in his eyes.

“And how will you do that?” asked Mitchel coldly, though with a glint of fear in his eyes.

“I’ll kill you. I’ll kill you all…” the boy said, a change coming over him. His voice gained strength, and a fire burned in his eyes. “I’ll make you suffer for each child you’ve experimented on… and then, when you beg for mercy, I’ll remind you of how much mercy you showed the children…” After he said this, the boy raised his right arm to shoulder height. He clenched his fist, and then it happened: a sword hilt started to form in it. It started at the end of the hilt, and kept materializing until he was holding a saber in his small, yet strong, hand.

“How in the… You shouldn’t be able to do that! The final program hasn’t been injected yet!” yelled Mitchel, in fear. “That should be impossible!”

“Face the truth, Mitchel. What all did you think Thomas… What all did you think my father was doing in here after you found out about my emotions? He was installing the master program. And he told me stories… Stories of adventure, of tragedy, of romance, of love… and in all the stories, there was a hero and a villain. And the hero always won…” the boy said, taking a few steps towards Mitchel and the guards.

“Guards! Kill him!” shouted Mitchel. The guards both stepped forwards, not really seeing any reason why Mitchel was so afraid of the boy. Before they could move closer, though, the boy ran at them. As he passed, he swung the sword, killing one of the guards. The other guard stopped, and then kept going. The guard raised his Taser at the boy, and the boy stopped. When the guard fired, the boy dropped to the ground as if hit. The guard walked over to his body, and the boy slashed up with the sword. The guard fell, dead. The boy got back up, brushed himself off, and started walking to Mitchel.

“Take a look around, Mitchel. You started this. It’s almost a shame that you won’t get to see it ended.” The boy said.

“What do you mean I won’t be around to see it ended, boy? Even if you kill me, the scientists have orders to resurrect me using my DNA. Nothing you do can get rid of me!” Mitchel replied, hysterically. He was almost shaking with fear now, though. He feared for his life, even if the scientists had orders to resurrect him.

“You forget who I am, Mitchel. What I am. I am the ExperimentOne. The Ultimate weapon, if you will. My only limits are what I can remember… and right now, I remember everything.” Said the boy, before slashing with the sword at Mitchel.

Alarms blared as the boy ran. He ran to the only place he could, to the only person he knew of who could help him escape. As he burst through the doors, he heard her say:

“So, we’re finally breaking out of here, eh? Good. I’ve had just about enough of the food they serve here…” said the girl. She looked to be about ten, the same age as the boy. She had long, dark brown hair that went down to her waist, and green eyes.

“Val, they’ve… They’ve killed Thomas. And I’ve… I’ve killed too…” the boy said, tears starting to run down his face. “But yes… We’re breaking out. But we’re also going to free as many of the others as we can after…”

“Oh, yay! Twice the fun! And I’m sorry about Thomas… I know he was like a father to you…” said the girl.

“Yes… but we have to move. We won’t be able to avenge him if we get caught…” the boy said, wiping his eyes. “Can you get through the vent?”

“Of course I can get though the vent!” She said, pretending to be angry. She put a look of concentration on her face, and then started to change. By the time she was done, she was a butterfly. The boy changed into another butterfly, and they both flew through an air vent in the wall. They flew through the air ducts and out an exhaust pipe on the outside of the building. It was night. Then they fluttered to the ground, and changed back into themselves.

“Are you ready? We only have one shot at this.” Asked the boy.

“I’m as ready as I can be…” replied the girl. “But… Promise me. Promise you won’t forget me, no matter what.”

“I promise. Now let’s go.” He said. They then ran across the yard. Alarms blared, and a voice called out over the intercoms.

“Blake and Valissa have escaped. Retrieve them at all costs. They are wanted alive, but dead if unavoidable. They have been sighted at the west wing. Blake and Valissa have escaped. Retrieve them at all costs…” it repeated itself.

“We’ve been found out.” Said Blake.

“That may be, but everyone hunting us are human. We aren’t. We’re Experiments.” Replied Valissa. She then put a look of concentration on her face again, and changed into a small wolf. Blake climbed on her back, and she ran off into the shadows on the edge of the yard
