Michael

"Good job, the two of you. Now, Jessica, leave so I can speak to Michael alone," He purred, and slapped her behind as she walked out of the room, causing me to grimace.

"You really did it this time. Anything to be out of a gang. Well, you succeeded,"

"I just- I don't understand. Why give it in the first place, something so precious?" I said, rubbing my forehead with my index finger and my thumb.

"Ah, you see, I have this thing where I can read people. You're smart, real smart. I knew you would've done it eventually. Even working with Jessica is something I'd never thought you'd do. There shouldn't be consequences, nobody will ask if nobody tells. Now there's one thing that I don't understand,"

"What's that?" I asked,

"Why you got yourself out of the gang, and not Misty,"

"Trick question, Estello. You and I both know that she's stuck in this business. She has a purpose, unlike me. Therefore, I'd be falling into my own trap,"

"So you know her purpose?"

"You told me, I recall,"

"Does she know?"

I shook my head, "And she shouldn't,"

He placed the ashtray back onto his desk, along with his cigar,

"How is she?"

"I don't know; I haven't seen her since yesterday. These lung convulsion things keep happening, and she hasn't a clue what they are. I decided it's best, with her anxiety and all,"

He nodded, "Well, you're free, Michael. Go be with your lover, and I'll go be with mine," He finished with a wink, and I nodded, tilted my hat and made my way to the hospital.

That was when Misty got suspicious, though I wasn't planning on telling her until the time was right. So I made up an excuse to do with something else that's been on my mind; living accommodations.

But I knew she wouldn't buy it.

It must've taken her a lot of thinking to drop the subject like that, but she did. And I was glad.

I didn't want to talk about it, we all do things I regret, and this one was a Catch-22.

Freedom. Freedom at last, but I felt selfish.

-

"You're not talking sense, Jessica. You left me for money, and now you want me back? No." I hissed, not looking at her.

"But Michael, I love you. We could try again, have a baby, I won't leave you – I promissss-" Her speech was slurred, probably from her being intoxicated.

"Just stop. I have to get this done, and then I never want to see you again, do you understand?"

"Easy there, tiger," She purred, wrapping her arm around my waist, and I quickly grabbed her wrist.

"I don't love you, I love Misty. After what you did, I'll never love you again. I- I regret everything,"

I dropped her arm and began walking away, but she stayed frozen, in shock, probably.

She caught up eventually, and she seemed to have snapped back into reality.

"You really love her, huh?
