Chapter Three

The echo of footsteps set Eema's stomach churning. She knew those feet, the pace in which they strode, the pressure from each one different. No matter how many times she'd heard it, the sound still made her feel like her bones were vibrating. Eema squared her shoulders, ready for the incoming, while her brother Raimay sighed. "What do you think he's upset about this time?" Eema shrugged, refusing to look to any of her brothers. The double doors of the cave slammed against rock as The Radiant Emperor Kaimay screamed to his children, sword outstretched.

"Where is it!" His voice was like a thunder clap. Eema and Raimay used to jump at it, so did all their siblings, but now it was too frequent, too normal. Eema looked to her brothers, as they stood like stone. Her eyes foudnt he floor again, her jaw popping, eyes narrowed. Eema stepped towards her father.

"Your Radiance, none of us know what you're talking about-" The Radiant Emperor Kaimay jolted forwards, teeth bared, as his daughter stumbled backwards. Her brothers , Fengmey and Davimay rolled their eyes at her.

"How dare you take that tone with me." The Emperor growled.

"Sorry father." She ushered before she got to one knee. He looked at her, his lips pushing together.

"Don't apologize!" He boomed, his sword's tip meeting the earth in a clash. Raimay stepped forward, his sister still down on one knee.

"All she was trying to say father, is that we don't know what's missing," Raimay looks to his other siblings, "or at least Eema and I don't." The King's eyes turned to his youngest son, and then flickered over the others.

"Our piece of The Ten Thousand Year Weapon is missing." Eema stood up in time with her brothers as they all jerked forward. "If none of you took it, then who did?" Prodded their father. Advisor Torah stood up from his seat directly next to the Emperor's. His hair greying at the sides, his staff banging against the ground as he stood. "Your Radiance, the hundred heroes have gathered in Marillie." The Emperor turned to him, his cloak moving with a hard swish. "A spy may have taken the piece. They could plan to leave us undefended when Gods strikes." The emperor turned back to his children as each one of them kneeled before him, their fist over their hearts. He looked over them in the orange glow of the crystals that lined the wall.

"The Frost Kingdom will pay for this. We'll not let God take this world from us." His children as shouted all together the words that lay on the royal family's crest.

"To the end!" With that the King turned, his cloak hitting the air again.

"Raimay, leave for Tarsala, we may need their alliance." Raimay stood, and with a nod, uttered.

"To the end, your Radiance." Raimay left swiftly though the same door his father had entered.

"Everyone else, prepare to leave for Marillie." His children all stood with a nod as he faced them. "Except you Eema, stay here." Eema's eyes cast downward as her brothers looked her over, their lips turning up, and their heads shaking. "The throne is yours until I return." Her father added. Eema smiled as her brother recoiled. Her father's cloak slid in the air as he marched away, his sons following behind him, the doors to the throne room closing with a swirl of red enchantment.
