After an emergency I learned so many truths unbeknownst to me before.

How being loved

Is different from feeling  loved

                                                                               ***

At school, I put on a smile for the one I love

Yes, I must leave, but can I not still love, too?

I pass the halls with my hazy smile

Grinning at nothing but the yellow sun

Oh that sun! Is it not brighter than usual?

As dawn goes down to day      (Not my words)

I dred that bell

For once it rings

My hazy, lazy, oh-so-necessary mask

Is no longer needed.

So as I buckle in for the ride home

My mouth a barren line

I go from HAPPY/CONTENT

to O.K/CONTENT

Can you blame me for masking myself with a smile?

For myself, and for that sugar that I crave.

Don't blame me!

I need this as much as they do!
