In my sleep the man is back. But this is different.

He's leading me, all around my apartment, up stairs, through doors , on elevators.

Until we arrive to the basement where the janitor keeps his things.

"You know." He says ever so quietly.

"You don't remember. But you know."

Not again.

this time I am unable to speak.

He circles me and I do not move.

"You know!!"

"You know how your parents died, everything."

You know.. The words tumble through my jumbled brain.

He disappears and for no reason I'm riddled with fear.

He arrives in moments time with my necklace.

" what--"

I manage to let the word drag, but it tastes bad on my tongue, I don't continue, figuring he knew what I was asking.

"Oh? You want you're necklace? "

"Ye-yes" I say, still struggling to speak.

"Well." He chuckles.

"You're gonna have to find it!"

He breaks the fragile chain that held the heart locket and tosses it into a box.

"STOP IT NO!" I scream so hard my voice hurts.

He just laughs.

He puts a lid on the box and places it on the table. he picks up a rag and ties it around my mouth.

We walk to the dark corner, where his flashlight guides us. It's musty and hard to breathe. Rats scatter in every direction. The only sound is the mans rough breathing and a leaky pipe.

We stop at a wall made of unsteady bricks.

He pulls one out a brick oddly colored than the rest and its hollow inside, he slides in the box containing my necklace, and returns the brick in place.

I want to scream at him but I am again tamed silent.

He turns to me and for the first I see his face. Thick black eyebrows, pale skin, blue eyes that seem so pale they have no color.

He's handsome really.

The light from the flashlight is placed to where a dark, shadow lines his face.

I expect him to say something when I realize I've regained my power to speak.

And the rag that once frame my mouth is gone.

"Why?" My voice is scratchy and catches at the end. Making me sound weak.

"Why not?" He asks. And hes gone. He just walks away. And I'm left in the bitter cold.

But not real cold. I'm dreaming. Aren't I?

Wake up!! I think, wake up! I don't like this!! Wake up!

"WAKE UP!!" I say aloud, now fearing I live in a nightmare.

"WAKE UP!!!" I yell at myself,

I slide to my knees in the darkness and cover my ears not knowing why exactly, still screaming

"WAKE UP WAKE UP WAKE UP'

"not yet"

He reappears.

He has the power to materialize anywhere completely silently i believe.

"Am I even dreaming?" I ask, standing up, whipping tears off my cheeks.

"When are you not dreaming?"

"Will you stop that!!" I demand more than ask.

"Remember when you were scared of me?" He walks closer, creeping along the floor, somehow making it seem like he flys.

"Who said I'm not?" The words tumble from my mouth.

"Well we have had plenty of time to become.." He pauses, and thinks. "Friends"

What?

"Friends?"

"Yes. Friends" he continues, pacing in slow circles, faring and nearing me again and again.

"Why would I be 'friends' with you? You've haunted me!"

"Haunted you're dreams" he corrects

"And when does it become so clear I'm the bad guy, maybe I'm trying to help." He adds.

Help? All he's done for the last 5 years is make me fear falling asleep.

"How would you help?" I print my thoughts into the air.

"You'll have to figure that out yourself... Sweetheart." He comes close and kisses my cheek, I flinch at his cold touch.

Who is he?

He begins to walk away when I ask "what's your name? If your such a friend.. Than what's your name?"

"You'll have to figure that out to."

" For someone who says they are my helper you don't help a whole lot.' I push.

He just laughs.

"Oh I'll help. You just wait..... Shaylyn"

Shaylyn? My name is kashia

"My names no-" he cuts me off.

"You'll see... You'll see.."
