The entire day had passed, filled with awful taunts and words that made me even more motivated to go through with this. I was heading to my last subject, music. Since it was a new semester, our schedules had changed.
I was near tears and sat down in my seat in the corner. Shay sat next to me, but I ignored him. I didn’t need him trying to tell me things will get better, because they just won’t.
Mr. Ray walked into the classroom and announced, “Okay, class. Today we will begin performing our songs that we have spent the last month or so composing. First up will be, Anna Hendrickson.”
The majority of the songs were horrendous to listen to. They were about people with perfect lives, partying, and completely self-centered. They had no substance.
“Rouge Thomas,” says Mr. Ray. Looked like I wasn’t getting off the hook.
I stepped out of my desk in the back of the corner, and walked to the front of the room. On my way up, I felt stares on my back, and heard loud and clear the whispers insulting me and snickers following them.
I walked up to the piano, and sat down. I glanced at the clock, relieved that we had eight minutes. Eight minutes before I was free to do whatever I needed to. Free to end my life.
I took a deep breath, and played the first notes of my song. Before I could hesitate, I began to sing.
“I can't sleep tonight
Wide awake and so confused
Everything's in line
But I am bruised
I need a voice to echo
I need a light to take me home
I kinda need a hero
Is it you?
I never see the forest for the trees
I could really use your melody
Baby I'm a little blind
I think it's time for you to find me
Can you be my nightingale?
Sing to me
I know you're there
You could be my sanity
Bring me peace
Sing me to sleep
Say you'll be my nightingale
Somebody speak to me
Cause I'm feeling like hell
Need you to answer me
I'm overwhelmed
I need a voice to echo
I need a light to take me home
I need a star to follow
I don't know
I never see the forest for the trees
I could really use your melody
Baby I'm a little blind
I think it's time for you to find me
Can you be my nightingale?
Sing to me
I know you're there
You could be my sanity
Bring me peace
Sing me to sleep
