I ran to the garage and found an old fishing net. Carla was ready to spray anything that came her way.
There must've been fifteen squirrels running around! I checked the kitchen clock. It read nine thirty AM. My mom would be home in one hour, and my dad an hour after that!
"Come on Carla, we have to be subtle, just walk slowly towards them and--" "AAAH!" She screamed, holding a net ready to catch a squirrel in one hand and a can of Silly String in the other.
"EEEEEYAAAA!" Even though no one else was in the room, I felt slightly embarrassed to be with her.
I shook my head, two squirrels escaped Carla in her line of fury. "How did they get away?" Carla asked. "Gee, Carla, I don't no." I said, rolling my eyes.
I felt bad about doing this, but I lied and told Carla that there was a unicorn outside, so she ran out the window, looking for a unicorn.
I used this sweet, rare time alone to catch squirrels. Not exactly how I would've planned my day, but it was better than having Carla "help." I had caught about five squirrels when I heard my mom's car drive up.
I groaned. "Oh, no," I said to myself. I went over to the door, waiting for her to come up to knock on it.
But she didn't. I looked out the peephole. What I saw surprised me, and it made me really happy.
Carla was distracting my mom, making up excuses. I went back to my room, trying to find more squirrels.
I looked out the window and Carla winked at me. I keep on having to remind myself; I get into some of the worst situations, but I get some of the best solutions.
I quickly rounded up all of the squirrels. I was unlocking the back door to let them out when my mom came in through the front door.
I tossed the box of squirrels out into the backyard and then turned to my mom. "Hi," I said, waving to her.
I turned my head back for a split second and saw the squirrels jumping out of the box, scurrying up the trees.
"Hi Abby," My mom said skeptically. I could tell that she sensed something was up. My big, cheesy smile probably gave it away.
"Um," I tried to think of something to say. "How was work?" I asked. "Good," She said, sitting down at the table.
She took half a doughnut leftover from lunch out of her lunch bag and ate it. I looked through the glass backdoor and started laughing once I saw the squirrels.
"What's so funny?" My mom asked. I shook my head, smiling, "Nothing."
