Chapter 2

We continued walking for about twenty minutes. I had Tristan hanging onto me as he limped along.

“We should stop for a moment.” Tristan recommended, so we stopped and sat down. We sat in silence for about five minutes.

Then Tristan asked “So who is this Alana, you claim to be?” with great curiosity.

I replied with “Well I’m Alana Matthews, and I’m now an orphan...”

But before i could continue, Tristan asked, “Now an orphan, what happened?”

“Well when i was younger my father died in a car accident, and recently my mother committed suicide.” I explained, trying to hold back the tears.

After that, all Tristan did was look at the ground and felt guilty for asking. But after a minute or so Tristan said “we should keep moving, the safe house is only another half an hour or so away.”

I got up and walked over to where Tristan was sitting. As i helped him up, I could tell he was in a great deal of pain. He could hardly move.

“Get on my back.” I told him.

“What?”

“Get on my back.”

He glared at me and then got on, and wrapped his arms around my shoulders.

As i piggy-backed him, he said with astonishment “Your string for a girl.”

“Jealous?” i asked jokingly.

“No!”

So after an hour or so, we finally made it. There was a small cottage in an opening, surrounded by trees. I slowed my steps, looking around i walked to the front door of the cottage.

“Knock.” Tristan told me.

“Why?” I questioned.

“Just knock.”

“Fine.” I wined.

I gently knocked on the door and Tristan and I waited momentarily. Then a really musclely guy opened the door.

I walked in, with Tristan still on my back, and i lowered him onto a chair. When he was off my back i knelt down, to look at his leg. It was bad. But before i could ask for a first aid kit, the big musclely guy was behind me with one.

“Thanks.” I said nervously.

“Oh that’s Ross, he’s the muscle of the group” Tristan explained.

“Hi Ross, I’m Alana.” I greeted with a small smile. “Wait, there’s more?”

“Just two more” Tristan said with that crocked smile. “Hey. Ellen, Lockie get out here.”

Next thing i know, I have this massively pretty girl in front of me, and next to her was a rather good looking guy.

“Hi, I’m Ellen. Finally another girl to talk to.” She said enthusiastically, whilst shaking my hand.

“Hey, I’m Lockie. Great to see someone who can do first aid around here.” He greeted with a small laugh at the end.

“Well hi, I’m Alana and yeah i can do first aid and all that stuff. It’s nice to meet you all.” I said with a great happiness in my voice.

“Hi Alana, I’m Ross.” He said shyly.

After i took the blood soaked shirt off of Tristan’s leg, I was looking in the first aid box for a pair of tweezers. After a minute searching through the box, I finally found a pair.

I was picking rocks and bits of rubble out of the cut, and as i was doing so, Ellen, Lockie and Ross were watching with great curiosity. I finally got all the big bits of rock and rubble out. Then I cleaned it with a disinfectant dressing. Tristan hissed in pain.

“Don’t move.” I demanded.

Tristan tried as hard as he could. After about few minutes i finally finished getting all the dirt out of the wound. Then i put a pad on it and wrapped his leg up in bandages.

I got up to see four faces all looking at me. They looked pleased and they were all smiling.

“Is there anywhere i can wash up?” I asked politely.

“Oh yeah, down the hall second door on the right.” Directed Ellen.

As I started to walk off, they all started to talk. After a while, I walked back into the main room, where all of them were.

“How would you like to join us?” Tristan asked cheerfully.

“Join you, in what?” I said, confused.

“Join us in our journey to escape and beat the world from dying.” Lockie answered.

“But we’re only a bunch of teenagers.” I exclaimed.

“We may just be a group of teenage, but with each of our talents we can stand strong and beat this.” Tristan said proudly.

“I don’t know.” I said in a weary voice.

“Well, I think we should all get some sleep and Alana you can think about this, and tell us your decision in the morning.” Tristan suggested. “Ellen. Alana will be bunking with you.”

“Okay.” Ellen said with excitement.
