Chapter 1: Adjusting
Outside of my window in Northside Chicago are about 6 inches of snow. It's November, and I'm dreading this recent move. My mom and dad recently divorced right as I'm about to enter my Senior year of high school, and my mom decided to relocate us from sunny-side Florida. My mom received cash from my dad after the divorce was settled, but we're still not rich. Instead of being wrapped in satin and silk, I have this itchy wool sweater keeping me warm. I honestly think my birth was a mistake, why was I not lucky enough to be born into a rich family?
Anyways, they make us go to school even when it snows which is complete bullshit if you ask me. Isn't this some type of crime? I could literally freeze my butt off."Alanna may you please move a little faster and pretend like you want to enjoy your new school?" My mom yelled.
"I don't want to go to a new school, I don't want to make new friends, and why did you have to be dramatic and move us hundreds of miles away?" I yelled back.
"Alanna Renee get your ass down here right this instant. I have to go to work soon, and I'm not putting up with this shit early in the morning" she growled.
I forgot to mention my mom has been acting like a complete bitch ever since the divorce. Maybe it's because she loved my dad, and she caught him cheating with his secretary. My mom has turned into this bitter old witch who constantly yells at me for every little thing. I guess I'm not helping that much either because I do have a smart mouth.
I walked downstairs and grabbed some burnt toast. I'm really trying to watch my carbs, so I eat it plain and head out the door. We live in North Heights and the school I'm attending is called North Heights Academy. My mom said I need to learn some discipline, and that this is supposedly the best academy in town.
I walked a few blocks and reached this massive steel gate. At the top of the gate spelled out "North Heights Academy" and under that was "Strive for Excellence."
"What a bunch of bull--"
"Hey! What are you doing in front of the gate?" This strange and unfamiliar voice chirped from a distance.
I turn around, and there's this tall, lanky, blonde haired girl with the most beautiful Chanel suit and pumps on. She wore this beautiful pink lipstick that reminds me of cotton candy. She smelled like Chanel number 5 and I only know that from dousing myself in it whenever I walked into a Macy's.
"I'm new to this school" I informed while trying to put on a fake smile and seem friendly.
"You go here? Are you the lucky student our school chooses each year so that one poor kid can finally feel important enough to be a somebody?!" She smirked.
"What the fuck did you just say to me!"
"Well, you just don't look like one of us, so I'm wondering why you're blocking the entrance" she implied while looking me up and down in disgust.
"I just transferred to this school, and if you'd excuse me, I have some where more important to be."
I slammed the gate door so that she would have to open it herself. I frantically look around the massive hallway trying to figure out where the principal's office is.
"What a loser," the girls that now accompany the bitchy blonde whisper.
As I look around the massive building I manage to find my way to the Principal's office. I'm told to sit and wait for Mr. Don to call me back into his office for my school schedule.
"Alanna Renee Smith" this deep voice groaned.
"Right here?" I questionably replied because I was unsure if he was aware I was sitting in front of him.
"Here's your schedule, your first class is Mathematics with Mr. Thomas, I'll escort you and then from there you're on your own"
We walk down the hallways and some of the students are by their lockers flirting and chatting.
"EVERYONE GET TO CLASS!" Mr. Don shouted.
"Alright Alanna, here's your class. This should be the first and last time I see you. If I see you in my office for any other reason then it's not good, and I won't go easy on you just because you're the new girl."
Mr. Don walked away from the door leaving me to face humiliation on my own.
"I hate being the new kid" I whimpered.
I tightly squeeze the doorknob trying to gather all of my confidence to walk in this classroom without anyone noticing I'm new. Instead, the knob was jammed so I had to jiggle it a couple of times, and everyone was now looking through the glass panel and snickering at me.
"Just my luck!" I whimpered.
I bash into the door and stop and stare at the whole class including Mr. Thomas.
"I'm a new student and my name is Alanna Smith." I quickly announced so that the whole introducing myself to the whole class ordeal would go a little faster.
"Oh, welcome! I'm Mr. Thomas."
"Class please welcome our new student and treat her kindly. North Heights is known for treated each student with respect.""Don't worry Mr. Thomas, we are all going to be on our best behavior" a familiar voice said.
I look over and there she was, the bitchy blonde from earlier. She smirked at me started laughing with her posse.I rolled my eyes and sat next to this brunette who didn't seem to be interested in what anybody had to say.
"Alright class, today we are learning calculus."
As the class went on, I gazed around the room. I noticed that everyone was dressed from head to toe in some designer's clothing and looked well groomed. Mr. Thomas wasn't half bad looking himself. I fantasized about having some of these girl's closets and wondering what their parents do for a living.
"I wonder if any of them have a hot brother who I could hook up with" I said in my head.
I am determined to show these lousy spoiled brats who the real bitch in town is, and I'm going to make my mark on this school one way or another before graduation.
