In a time that no one can remember, in a village that no one knew, there lived a young
girl. No one knew her name except for her mother, who passed away from sickness when the girl was younger. Before her death, she left with her daughter a red silk hood. She wore it all
the time in remembrance of her mother. For this reason, everyone called her Red. Although, I can’t say everyone because no one spoke to her. No one paid any mind to her. No one cared for Red except her grandmother, but she lived quite far. Her mother had taken Red to see her once, but the details were a bit foggy to the young girl.
One day, the memory of her grandmother started to fade from Red’s mind. If she forgot the old lady, she really would have no one. Red, with nothing to pack or bring, quickly set out
on her way towards Grandmother’s house. As mentioned before, the details were a bit foggy to
her, but Red believed she remembered the path well enough.
On her way, she ran into a young man. When she asked his name, he simply said to call him the Huntsman. He told her that on the path, she would come to a forked road. “Take the
left path,” he said, “ for it is the quickest. Also, do not listen to the animals of this deceiving
forest.” Red thanked the Huntsman for his advice and carried on her way. She did not notice Wolf stalking through the forest and listening to the conversation, but the Huntsman did.
After waiting a few moments to let the young girl wearing a red silk hood get some distance, he
decided to try and follow Wolf to see what he was planning. Alas, wolves are much quicker
than any human. The Huntsman couldn’t catch up, but stayed on Wolf’s trail.
