Lincoln walks into his room and takes off the squirrel suit, finally able to breathe right. His bed and dresser are now back, along with his tiny desk to do homework. It had been a week since he had gone to Lynn's softball game in the squirrel suit to prove that he wasn't bad luck to his family. Now, I know some of you might be wondering why anyone could possibly think that an 11-year-old could be bad luck. He looks at us, "Oh, hey there. I know what you are thinking, surely my family is over this whole ridiculous idea by now, sadly, they are not. A part of me thinks that this is an issue only because Lynn is too proud to believe that she choked and that the whole family is too ignorant to realize that Lynn can be beaten in a sport." He sits down, " Now I am not saying that I can beat her in a sport. However, someone else can." He sits there, having a brief fantasy of beating Lynn in a simple game and proving that once and for all, there is no such thing as luck. Even Lisa somehow believed it. He gets up and walks out of his room and into the hallway.
However, at this very moment, one of the girls, six-year-old Lola Loud, the pageant winner and princess of this family walks out of the room that she shares with her twin sisters Lana and gasps when she sees him and yells out, " DAD! Lincoln is in the house and he isn't wearing his suit!"
"LINCOLN! Put on the suit!" the yell had come from downstairs.
Lincoln walks on to the bathroom, grumbling "I know in hindsight, I shouldn't have pretended to be bad luck, I just wanted some me time. I know that in a family with 10 sisters, especially talented ones, I have to attend their events. Yet whenever I go to do my things, very few if any, ever show up. It's hard being the only boy in a family with 10 sisters, and sometimes, I think that is the only thing that is special about me in this family. Lori is a skilled Multi-Tasker and a leader who is able to keep her ten younger siblings under control. Leni, although not the brightest, is skilled with her hands and good at fashion designing. Luna, now she is a rock star of the family. Literally, she plays guitar better than anyone I know. She is always talking in a British accent as well. Luan, although not funny is always at least trying to cheer everyone up with a good joke and pun and despite her not being funny to us, she is able to run a successful funny business with me as her assistant. Lynn, as I am sure you all know, is a sports star, like I said earlier. She is very skilled and works and practices harder than anyone else. then there are my younger sisters. Lucy is very dark and is always writing poetry, I'd already told you about Lola, so I am not going to go into that. Lana, her twin sister, is able to fix things really well. Twins, they may look alike, but they were born as opposite as can be while still being the same gender. Then there is Lisa, she is four years old and a certified genius, she has already graduated college and is always experimenting in her room, searching for new discoveries. Of course, there is also the baby of the family, Lily. Lily has won the thumb sucking contest, all of my sisters have rewards in the trophy case. Me? I am just the boy, I guess that is the only thing about me that is meant to be special in this family." He sighs and then he goes back to his room and gets comfortable to read some comics.
Several hours go by and Lincoln is called down to dinner by his mother and father, all of his siblings are in the living room, Lincoln is wearing the Squirrel Suit, just like he is suppose to.
Lynn Sr looks at Lincoln and he sighs, " Okay son, that is enough, you can take off the squirrel suit."
Lincoln looks confused, " huh? What? But what about bad luck?"
Lori scoffs, " Come on twerp, we all know that you were lying and playing it all up. Lynn may be superstitious, but the rest of us aren't."
Lincoln looks at them in disbelief as he takes off the head of the costume, " Wait, so you all were...faking?"
Luan laughs, " Of course we were, if you were really bad luck then my funny business would be such a downer, not an upper."
The whole family groans, this wasn't even a bad pun, it was just Luan attempt at something.
Luna looks at him, " What can I say, little bro, you had it coming. You aren't the only one who has to put up with going to your sibling's events when you don't always want to. We all have to do it. Just, we know when to ask for some time when it is just us, to do our thing. You have to take the bad with every good."
Lincoln is looking at them in disbelief, " So this, all of it, was just another way to teach me a lesson?"
Lynn sighs, " I am partial to blame as well, I did practically threaten you with a bat and was too proud to admit that I had choked. It was just easier to blame it on you. Then, when I realized that I could trick Leni into actually thinking that you were bad luck and that you'd use it to your advantage to get some free time. Well, that was all that I intended to do, I realize that you were too polite to just say no, so I came up with a reason, to make up for calling you bad luck."
Rita looks at him, " Yes, honey, and we would have let it go after that, but we realized that you needed to see that you were in the wrong, however, since you enjoyed being 'bad luck' in order to miss your sisters events, we decided to make you bad luck so that you wouldn't be able to come on things that you wanted to come on as well."
Lynn Sr looks at his son, " yeah, sorry son, we realized that we ourselves went too far when we kicked you out of the house, we were just trying to teach you learn a lesson by letting your own lie punish you."
Lincoln looks at them, " so, that's it. I can take off the squirrel suit?" he asks.
They all laugh and their mom, Rita, speaks up, " Yes Lincoln, go on upstairs and take off the suit and then come on down and eat."
Lincoln walks on upstairs and into his room and takes off the squirrel suit and he looks at us, " Well, all in all, I have to say that I have learnt from this. One, don't lie to get out of going to your sisters events and Two, my parents and sisters can be very clever with punishing me or teaching me a lesson when they want to be."
