What's Your Biggest Fear?

Just a Normal Day... Right?

I was at school when the "Zombies" attacked. They got mostly everyone and I almost didn't make it out alive. It was nearly impossible to dodge the teachers, but it was safe to say that I didn't ask for a hug that day... I was too heartbroken, anyways.

No one knew how it had happened. One minute it had been a regular, old school day, with half of the students asleep in their classes. It was the end of the year so naturally no one was paying attention. Not that the teachers cared.

That's why it had come as such a shock... No one had seen it coming.

Joy's POV:

A Friday to be exact; it didn't happen to start out strange either. It started like any other day. It started with me, Joy Greens, waking up at the crack of 6am to Marie, My best friend, playing guitar. I never minded waking up to this, for different reasons such as: one, I can't wake myself up. I'm 16 and that's too hard for me to do, I don't know why I'm not used to this by now. And, two, guitar is much better than the sound of my annoying alarm clock.

After opening my eyes and laying there for a few minutes, Marie spoke up. "You should probably get up now. School starts in an hour and you take forever to just get ready." I groaned as she got up and pulled the sheets off of me. I rolled over and checked my phone. Then I got up, put my glasses on and proceeded to do what I do every morning which is: fall out of bed and dress in decent clothing, a maroon sweater, peter pan collar blouse, jean shorts, and black tights, then saunter into the kitchen where I fill my belly up with Marie's amazing breakfast.

Marie looked at me while I stuffed my face with her fabulous Nutella bread. "Umm, Joy? You got a little... nutella... ALL over your face." She says while laughing. I shook my head as I wiped my face. "Don't blame me. The nutella is taking over my body."

"Okay. Okay. Lets go before you kill yourself with all of this Nutella!" She playfully yelled as she took the tray of heaven away from me.

"Fiinnnneeee. Let me go grab my bag and shoes!" I exclaimed as I ran up the stairs, grabbed my stuff and ran back down. I sat on the couch and put my maroon Vans on quickly as possible. I grabbed my messenger bag and wrapped it around me, feeling as if I was forgetting something important. "Your books." Marie spoke up as if she read my mind.

"OH RIGHT. Thanks Marie!" I ran up the stairs, again, grabbed my books and ran back down. I sighed, running is not my thing.

"Lets go?"

We walked outside, I looked up to the sky as Marie locked the door behind me. I felt a strong breeze run by. "Whoa... Its almost Summer and Its freezing." I said as we both walked down the stairs towards my car. "Right? I wonder whats with the sudden weather change." She replied with a shiver.

I took my keys out and unlocked the doors and sat down in the car, Marie in the passenger seat. I shut the door and turned the engine on.

"I hate school." I sighed out as I pretended to cry.

Marie laughed out loud as we drove off to school.

"No! Ramona! You're going to make them fall!" I whisper-yelled at Ramona, while laughing. "We're so gonna get in trouble for this." Marie laughed. We're trying to make a chair/stand pyramid in the band room at the moment... And it looks freaking awesome!

 "What are you guys doing...?" Oh shit...

"Oh heeyyy, Steven. Oh, you know... Just having some fun..?", Ramona said.

Steven. Ramona's older brother, Senior, chill, and has a great sense of humor.

Ramona on the other hand, the most craziest person that you'll ever meet, and the most cheerful person ever! Has the tendency to drift off most of the time, but she can make your day just by saying one thing. Side note: She's short. Very short. 

Well. You guys already know Marie, She's very happy and cheerful at times. Also, very conceited and can be sassy at times. If she wants something, she will get it.

"Look, I would totally be up for this, but since class is gonna start in like a minute. You guys need to put this stuff away." Steven sassed at us. We all groaned, but did what we were told.

~Ring dingle dangle rang ring~

We were finishing up and started putting our instruments away. All at once, however, someone outside started screaming. I didn't know who it was, but it was loud. Really, really loud. This wasn't some moron playing a joke. This was the sound of real fear.

The whole class went silent. The scream then stopped for a few moments, and I listened, my heart thumping wildly in my chest. The scream had made me afraid, too. It was so... bloodcurdling. We all gathered back to the main room. "What the hell?" Steven said. Then everyone started whispering and talking, obviously confused. "Who was that? Must be some joke. Ugh, stupid Freshmen." Amy, a student, said in disappointment. I didn't say a word. Then I spoke up, "Somethings wrong..." That was when the screams started up again. But there was more than one this time. It was several voices all at once, just yelling so loud that I almost clapped my hands to my ears. I could picture their vocal cords bleeding under the strain of their shrieks. 

My hands and legs started shaking. Damn it... 

I looked up at Marie, she knew what was happening and put her hand on my shoulder. 

"It's okay, Joy. Just breathe in and out. It's probably nothing, don't worry." She informed me while smiling slightly. 

People started to notice that something was horribly wrong. Mr. Gonzalez, our band teacher, stood up and stepped out the classroom to see what the commotion was about. So did the rest of the class. Ramona, Marie, Steven and I just stood inside the classroom with fear. We stood next to the door while everyone was in the hallways.

That's when we all heard the announcements ring go off. We all heard our principle speak. "This announcement is for all of the students, an emergency situation is taking place in the school right now. All students must follow your teachers instructions and EVACUATE. I repeat, a violent incident is taking place and you must evacuate rig-" Statics went through the speakers and it went silent. We all heard the fear in his voice. My heart was racing and I felt as if time stopped, but that's when the speakers went off again. "Get away from me! GET BACK! AHH AHHH AHHHHH! HELP! HEL-" And that's when the speakers shrieked and completely turned off.

The rest was a blur after that. People started running up and down the stairways of the school in a panic. Someone even pulled the fire alarm. No one knew what was happening, but we all acted like we did. The staff grabbed their red safety backpacks. They were doing the best they could, given the circumstances. As for me? I froze again, stunned at the scene. Nothing made sense to me! Everyone was so scared, and no one was listening to each other. You couldn't get a single person to stop what they were doing to ask what was going on. Everyone's eyes were wide with fear. Some even ran out of the school, leaving their friends without a single thought.

It was pure chaos....
