~Third Person POV~
Winter had begun.
The snow fell softly and gently, small white wisps attaching themselves to everything and blanketing the land in white.
Everything was still as if all life was asleep.
The snow laid untouched, the trees bared.
The frosted mountains were silent.
Crunch.
Footsteps disturbed the winter wonderland.
A young man with shoulder-length, blonde hair tied back in a ponytail shivered as a chilly breeze flitted by and entered the small openings in his clothing, chilling him to the bone. There was a bundle of firewood on his back, which he had painstakingly collected.
He had run out of them earlier.
His breath came out in puffs of white as he trudged home, body cold. He heard a cry and as he rounded a bend in the path, he came upon a crane.
"Huh? What's a crane doing—" As the man looked down at the crane, he noticed a rope looped around the crane's foot, preventing it from flying away.
It was beating its wings wildly, desperately trying to escape. He approached the crane and it snapped at him.
"Easy there. I won't hurt you." He said, approaching the crane slowly.
"Let me help you." The crane calmed as it listened to his voice, stilling.
He knelt and took the crane's foot in his hand. Loosening the rope, the crane pulled its foot free.
The crane's eyes glimmered with gratitude as it looked up at the man. He watched as the crane fluttered its wings and soared off into the sky.
He smiled and continued on his way, unknowing of the eyes following after him and the beating of wings above him.
Both would not know of what was to come.
